Old Rockers Never Die Idle Rockers Do

Eojckahvyhtn-500x400

After 20 years of chasing that elusive rock star dream I made a decision 12 years ago I needed a real job, I tried many things like courier driving, office worker, Insurance broker so my wife and I decided to pack up from Sydney and head over to the long white cloud New Zealand, I can hear you all say WHAT!!! you left Australia to live in NZ? well it seemed like a good idea at the time. We had a very romantic dream of starting up a little antique shop in a sleepy village were only nice people came in and bought your over priced goods although I had no experience in antiques or running a business but as with most of my jobs I could bluff it really well. anyway the reality was we ended up in a dirty dingy cold under cover market selling to hundreds of tire kickers, time wasters and thieves for a few years , talk about come crashing down to earth. We did end up in our own shop for some years after that which had some great moments but then came Trade Me and a whole swag of lounge chair dealers that don’t need a licence to sell or have police checking your books incase someone sold you aunt Daisy’s stolen tea pot. All along 10 years went by and the once passionate guitarist singer-songwriter had died, I mean I stopped playing guitar I didn’t sing a note I hardly even listen to any music anymore I was so jaded the creative side of me did a 360 that I was more into creating quirky shop displays of colourful curios of days gone by. Although I couldn’t see it was doom really, I surrounded myself with really pricey items that didn’t sell but hey I looked great sitting amongst it. So my poor enduring wife who put up with this money losing venture for so long said honey its time to let it go so we did the shop was closed. We managed to save a little money and buy our first home so here I was no job and no creative outlet so we did the DYI thing on the house for a few years which kept me going but like all things they all come to an end, so here I was twiddling my thumbs and looking at my Fender Stratocaster will I won’t I? so I picked it up and it was like riding a bike it felt like home although a lot slower and rustier I could still lay down some chops. So I looked at my home computer and Googled everything I could find about home studios once I had created a very inexpensive studio quite laughable really I sat down and started to write again and amazingly enough songs just poured out it was like a religious experience really very cleansing and I was back to the only thing I really ever enjoyed so I have gone the full circle I guess the moral to this story is Old Rockers Never Die Idle Rockers do.
