Recording Some Demos
Ok, so yesterday the band went downtown to record a few demos. It was really hot in there! They had some fans, but everything had to be shut off once the recording started. We did all the tracks fairly quick, but some were a bit rougher than others. The head phone mix was a continuous disaster, but we worked with what we were given. It was definitely a learning experience. These little trips to the studio will make recording the actual album that much more easy and smooth. I am so lucky to be working with great people and great musicians. That doesn’t come around very often.
While we listened to the tracks we started to discuss how long we had actually been playing together. We really have not had more than fifteen practices. This was pretty exciting to think about because everything is clicking nicely, and we have just barely begun. I guess that’s just what happens when you are surrounded by talent.
I had to be recorded in a separate room from the others due to my acoustic and the vocals. We did it very live, so I played and sang at the same time for every take. I had to sit down while singing, which was a little strange at first, but became comfortable pretty quick.
The strangest thing was not being able to see everyone. Tim and I had a perfect view of each other, so we could communicate through the glass, but Dan and Joel were only in my headphones. This made listening to them even more important because we could not communicate with our usual glances, nods, and sways.
While all this was going on Brooks was busy sneaking pictures and getting video footage of the band. He was good at catching you when you didn’t know he was filming.
Overall, it was a fun, hardworking day, that ended perfectly with Mexican food and a good night sleep.
Hope you all enjoy what we worked on this Sunday!
