Kudos To Our Stage

I have to say, I am impressed with the responsiveness of the Our Stage staff. I’m not one to run around giving out compliments willy-nilly. In fact, I tend to be more on the “cynical” side, you might say.

However, I did (this week) report a song as being off-topic for the genre (it was a cover song). Yes, it was in the same category as our song, but no, our song isn’t even in the top 10 (and it’s a very small genre). I reported it because, first of all, it was sitting at number one, unjustly, and thus, taking a number one spot away from an original artist; and two, it’s just unfair to those who write their own music.

There’s no doubt in my mind that listeners are going to naturally gravitate toward a song that sounds even vaguely familiar, even if they can’t seem to place it. It’s just human nature. But that’s really not what this is all about.

I hope the song does well in the Cover Song category, because it really is well done. But it just needed to be placed correctly.

Anyway, it’s only a couple of days since I reported it as off-topic, and I see that the staff has removed it from that particular category.

So, kudos, Our Stage. Keepin’ it real for the strugging artists!

Categories

Wow, the more time I spend here, checking out music, the more impressed I am, and the more intimidated I am. There’s a lot of professional music here.

Aside from judging music just for fun, I also try to judge various categories, to see if any of our stuff would fit. I’m not having much luck. I guess we’re hard to categorize. It’s a problem!

That said, I really do enjoy this site. I’ve done some judging tonight, and I found some really good stuff.

If anybody has any advice on where our music might fit better, send me a message!

Hello!

Hello! I’m here, still trying to figure out how everything works.

A little about me: I’m sort of the “mouthpiece” of Red River, meaning I do all the boring computer stuff, while my husband produces all the songs. I figure I have to contribute somehow. Our bandmate, Dale, lives in Maui, and we collaborate by sending stuff back and forth between us, since we can’t just hop a plane and travel to Hawaii whenever we want to work on a song (duh). I’m lucky if I can afford gas just to get to work, much less fly all over the world.

Our band does a mixture of a lot of stuff…..well, pretty much you name it, we probably do it. We’re eclectic! Yea, that’s it.

My stuff pretty much stays within the country genre, try as I might to do something different…....it always still sounds country. Dave (my husband) is a rocker, but he also likes to dabble in instrumentals from time to time. Dale does the singer-songwriter stuff.

I’m a very young (ha ha) songwriter, who’s only been doing this for about 6 years. You’d think I’d have more to show for myself after 6 years…....but progress comes slowly in my lame world of songwriting.

We’ve been here at OurStage for awhile. We haven’t had much success yet, but we keep plugging away.

Whenever we get something new, we try to add it to the competition.

Who knows? It’s still fun, if nothing else.

So, welcome to my blog. I’ll try to write something interesting once in awhile.
