Hip Hop Versus Rap -Mind Games

“The whole world wants to be us even though we don’t know who we are..”

I was at the corner in my old neighborhood getting an Arizona Ice Tea and a bag Of Flaming Hots, I originally went in the store to get some Mags but i said to myself “ima just go home.”

These kids pulled up on there bikes both in air force ones and white t’s, when i came out the store they ask for a quarter, but I gave em each a dollar. One had on some red ear jacks leading to an ipod, so i asked him.. “what u listen to?” he replied in his little raspy voice: “real hip from the father of the rap game, the one who started it all.” I’m like “oh Yeah, who dat be” In my head I’m thinking, _the future is looking bright, when a young man decides he’ll pass up the non-sense and look in the past for the essence of the art..

But then he looked me dead in my eye’s and said: two words I did not expect to hear, that i wasn’t ready to hear… two words that shattered my reasoning and my personal audacity.. two words that made me look at him and think; true that’s where we at… He said Lil Wayne…I said “what” He said “I got the Gucci Man On here too” I told him to take it easy and be safe out hear, and look both ways before crossing the street, he gave me dat and said “I got dis”

I hop’d in my wip, cranked her up and rolled out.. I just looked out my window at the curb side traffic thinking, Dazam is this where we are in time. The young ladies fast as hell, the young boys headed no where, and the old timers like me out of date still rapping about making a change..

When I was young I grew up on N.w.A. and Too Short… but as i got older I started to listen to the more conscious tunes that talked of real life and real results….. But Thinking back my first Cash Money Records Cd was B.G. Chopper City In The Ghetto… He was on the cover slumped to the side and it was raining bullets… I remember wanted to be that.. U.G.K. “back front back and side to side” Pimp C said: “i got 64 Chevy in my yard/ White drop top pearl paint job is hard!” I remember wanting to drive that…

So I can only assume the kids of today want to drive Bentley’s and want to sell drugs and be gang stars and killers, and have sex… Because its all I hear on the radio, because its all I hear in the streets, because its all i hear from the mouth of the young..

Im a little twisted, I love bump’n on sum old “Rakim” a blunt, a beer and the 17th letter.. But I also like bumping on sum “Top Authority” “Brother Lynch Hung” “No Limit” Feind- There one in every family- is in my top ten of favorite Albums ever.. But Im of age and i know the difference, because when i was younger there was a balance..

Today there is no balance, there is no sense of self respect that we got from “Aresta Development” or LL Cool J. There is no Intense Lyrical delivery and methodology like we got from “Wu tang Clan” or Beastie Boys” Its raw and uncut as ever.. The product is so strong that once its digested the off spring are mentally defected, socially ejected, crucial neglected…

Its ironic how the African American can be the most self identity Crissie breed, yet at the same time the most marketable commodity known to man. “The whole world wants to be us even though we don’t who we are..”

So is music to blame for the pre-madona, scared to fight-quick to kill, vanity inclined, material defined, sexually benine, sub-intellectual, homo exceptable..teenage baby mama, phyco drama, non-driven, proverty strickened, prone for prizon, home for snitch’n, un political, un habitual, un equivical, un hyginical, un educated, under apreciated, over toxicated, anti spiritual synical indivisuals present..

Rap versus Hip Hop Is not about Album sales, or bigger and better cars and cribs…Its about a choice, its about the restoration of balance.. The Mc is Last sleeping giant of his day.. Words can enpower a nation or destroy a people..

Do You need proof, those kids had on Airforce one’s (Nelly) did that.. they had on white T’s (Franchise Boyz) did that.

Nas And Common and Kanye can’t doit all.. its alot of god Mc’s wit deals and wit out deal, that dont get the airplay they should.. We so sold out its shame less…”its more than words,Its more to than rap”
