State of the Art, or Old School

I remember being at a concert in the late 70’s at the Dallas TX Cottonbowl. Pure Prairie League, Billy Squire, Pat Travers, Fleetwood Mac, and Rush. When Billy Squire attempted to play his hit single”Children of the Sun”. Now Children of the Sun, for you youngsters who don’t know the song, began with some electronic effects. Very cutting edge for the time. However Mr. Squire attempted his first start and the electronics malfunctioned. And so it was with the second, third and fourth attempts. Finally he played the song without the intro. My point is I am hearing a ton of stuff that is technically enhanced, especially vocals. Now I couldn’t do what I do with out effects so don’t misunderstand what I am saying here today. What I am saying is use as little as you can. If you can’t reproduce what you do in the recording process then what good is it. It makes you false. Be yourself, for better or worse. Be real, not some made up sound because the ultimate goal for any recording artist is to play what you record for living breathing people. I love you all, and there isn’t a darn thing you can do about it. And that’s today’s line of crap from Morris KeeHave A Graet Day :-}

New Music Or Sell Out?

Todays new music I hear On XM,s Flight 26 is mostly what I listen to while driving the seemingly endless miles I travel every week, When I am not listening to Fox News or Classic rock from the 70,s on XM 46 top tracks. I find some of the music to be very decent then there is the other stuff. Now don,t get me wrong every one has to find thier nitch. But what I am saying is what is a turn ofrf is things like Kid Rock writing new words to Sweet Home Alabama, or Nicklebacl Promoting drugs and associating them with Rock-N-Roll. Since 1991 I have been drug free and plan to stay that way. Drugs destroies lives, and anyone who says they play and perform better that way is full of **. I had a young 21 year old lead guitar play in San Antonio who swore a few beers while on stage didn’t matter. I disagreed but to no avail. So I took out the trusty 4 track recorder and recorded a gi at Billy’s Irish Pub in San Antonio. I played the tape for Adam at ouyr next rehersal and Adam was truely shocked at how sloppy his leads got buy the end of the second set. Ted Nugents Band and road crew has been drug and alchohol free since the 70’s real pro’s know it is bad news for any and all concerned.I like songs that are well structured and have some kind of story or meaning to them. It is my opinion that is what people really want to hear. Have a great Day. :-}
