My trip to Atlanta on November 5!

Qfopcdomiifp-500x400

Hey everyone!

I arrived in the USA on the evening of November 5, 2008 for dental surgery at Suwanee Dental Care with the best dentist in the world, Dr Bill Williams, Master Dentist. The only dentist who does not hurt you. No lie!

There was Obama frenzy everywhere I went, amongst all races. Georgia did not vote for Obama, but, being the inquisitive journalist that I am, I wanted to know what Americans felt about their newly-elected Forty-Fourth President.

My Caucasian limo-driver said that he did not vote for Obama because he felt that the Obama government would implement huge taxes on the big corporations which would eventually result in layoffs and economic hardship for the working class people. He felt that a McCain government would keep the middle class and working class, particularly farmers in Georgia, in good financial stead.

A Caucasian San Francisco businessman said that his family voted for Obama because it was time for Change in America because of the economic situation. I assumed gay rights as soon as I heard the words San Francisco, but, the gentleman was happily married.

An American international airline stewardess was elated that Senator Barack Obama had won and felt that he would be the one to implement the change needed to turn the American economy around.

A waitress said that she and her whole church were praying for the safety of Barack Oabama and his family because she was sure someone would try to kill him because he was an African-American bringing change for all the American people.

I had a dream on Thursday, November 21, 1963 that John F Kennedy had been assassinated. I woke up crying on Friday morning, November 22, 1963 and Kenneday was killed later that day. JFK was my favourite American President when I grew up.

On August 26, 1990, my only son, Andre Carrington Whitter was killed in a fatal traffic accident one year to the day that he had been shipwrecked at sea for eleven days. He had been plucked from the ocean by Captain Dedebilos of the Greek tanker the Chios, 90 miles NE of Bermuda. He managed to survive by eating seaweed and drinking his own urine.

I was overwrought with grief at my son’s death and I was sent a vision. Angels carried me through many lands and told me that a great man would come from afar. People would be treated fairly and justly under his rule and he would have unlimited financial resources to do his work. I now believe this great man to be Barack Obama, the Forty-Fourth President of the United States.

I pray that he will be the great man in my vision to bring about unity amongst nations. I watched the election in French on a Paris channel on November 4, 2008 and there were many people waiting with bated breath for Obama to win.

I bought all of the Magazines with Obama on the cover and History Made by Hope is my favourite. There are stories and colour photos depicting his life with his family and his rise to the position of Senator in Illinois and his subsequent successful election campaign in 2008.

Hopefully, if the new Obama government can put the brakes on this economic downslide, small investors like me may be able to see some movement in the money market and then be able to afford to spend some money on luxuries like music and entertainment.

Good luck to you all in the quarter finals on November 24!

Tariqah Walikraam shot an Eagle at the World Amateur Teams Championships!

The Espirito Santo Trophy was captured by Sweden in the prestigious World Amateur Teams Championships in Adelaide, Australia on October 11, 2008.

Forty-Eight women’s teams fought through 72 holes of the tough East and West Grange Golf Courses over four days of play from October 8-11.

Sweden never looked back after they started the tournament with a 10 stroke lead on October 8. Final scores were Sweden 561 (19 under), 1st place, gold medallists. Spain 573 (7 under), 2nd place, silver medallists and USA 575 (5 under), third place, bronze medallists.

My country, Bermuda, finished 43rd with a 61 over par 641. My daughter, Tariqah Walikraam shot an eagle on hole 13, a 465 yard par five. Team members Kim Botelho and Ebonie Burgess battled through with Tariqah to move the team from 47th up to 43rd place in the final standings on October 11.

The level of play for the World Amateur Teams Championship 2008 was better than I have seen at some of the LPGA tournaments. Bermuda had lots of pars, a few birdies, one eagle, but way too many double and triple bogeys. Preparation for a tournament of this magnitude should begin at least one year in advance.

The Bermuda Amateur Golf Association sent out the following Press Release.

The 2008 World Amateur Team Championships will be held in Adelaide, South Australia. They will be held from October 4th to the 19th. This event occurs every two years and is organized by the International Golf Federation. It is jointly supported by the R and A and the USGA.

The Bermuda Golf Association will be sending both Men’s and Ladies teams to this event. In the world of amateur golf, this competition is known as the “Olympics of Golf”. The men will be competing for the Eisenhour Trophy with close to 80 countries participating. The Bermuda Men finished tied 39th in 2006. A feat that this year’s team hope to better.

The Ladies compete for the Espirito Santo Trophy with about 60 countries entered. In 2006 Bermuda Ladies finished 32nd out of 42 countries. Many future professional golfers will be representing their countries. Amanda Blumenherst, the top USA college player and US Amateur Champion will be playing for the USA.

Past players in this competition include household names such as Tiger Woods, Sergio Garcia, Phil Mickelson, Vijay Singh and many, many more. The Ladies include Lorena Ochoa, Paula Creamer, Annika Sorenstam, Karrie Webb, etc.

The Men’s team will consist of Daniel Augustus, Nick Jones and Jarryd Dillas whilst the Ladies will be represented by Tariqah Walikraam, Kim Botelho and Ebonie Burgess.

The above selection resulted from the 2008 Stroke Play Championships which were used as a playoff for those eligible to represent Bermuda. With the exception of Botelho, it is a very youthful team with ages from 18 to 22.

Captain of the Ladies Team will be Eddie Marshall whose daughter Kim is also playing. The Men’s Team will be captained by Rick Bartlett.

Accompanying the teams will be supporters Harry Botelho, Jan Marshall, Eardley Jones, Kevin Burgess and Cavon Spencer.

The event is played over 72 holes with the best two scores from each team counting each day. The two courses being used for this event are the Grange Golf Club and the Royal Adelaide Golf Club. Both have been used for championship events in the past and will provide a good test for golfers.

WHEW!! Now that my daughter is “Down Under” I can get back to judging music. Good luck everyone!

Good luck in the Quarter Finals Everyone!

Hey everyone I’m back. I had one lesson with Mike Passmore of the Simply Great Golf Academy at Possum Trot Golf Club in Myrtle Beach on August 26 and I reduced my score by 23 strokes at the most difficult course we had to play-True Blue.

The bad news is I got lost with my GPS and ended up one hour out on highway 501. I got disqualified from the World Amateur Handicap Tournament when I did not show up for my 8:30 am tee time at the Arrowhead Golf Course on August 28.

Well, I got to play a round with Doc at Possum Trot and I had two great dinners at Bonefish Grill. I lost 12 balls over three days of tournament golf in extreme weather conditions. I even got my first par and I met some really nice people who love to play golf. Myrtle Beach is not the easier place to find your way around, but there are some great public golf courses there. Now, I am back to judging again.

World Amateur Handicap Tournament August 25-29, 2008!

Wordman talked me into competing in the World Amateur Handicap Golf Tournament 2008 in Myrtle Beach this year as a late entry. I started to play golf in February and did not feel good enough to enter.

Thanks for the confidence in me. You can track my progress at worldamgolf.com in the senior ladies division-40.4 USGA index-last on the list.

Spice up your Music Video with New Wave Dance Moves!

I have been thinking a lot about movement lately. I have had fun and many sleepless nights chatting in the Judges’ Chambers with all my friends about their music. I have critiqued more than 80 artists of all genres.

But, what is music without movement? If the people in the audience do not move-you suck, yo!

Temperatures risin’! Hips grindin’! Fingers poppin’!Toes tappin’! Yes, you are on your way to the “benjamins”, baby!

Suddenly, it occurred to me that many of us will never be able to do the hot moves necessary for these phenomenal hits! I know that I can no longer do splits or flips so a compromise is definitely needed.

What about a combination of latin moves with hip hop? I think that would be awesome! Sultry latin salseros with hip hop dudes flippin’ and slidin’ to krunk beats-sounds like a hot scene for a music video, yo!

Kudos to first place winners June 2008!

Congratulations to Kelly Ingram on her 1st place in Christian and 1st place in singer/songwriter/female.

Congratulations to Mario G on 1st place win in Tropical.

Congratulations to Annawhity on her 1st place in Electronic.

Congratulations to Ebland on his 1st place in R&B.

Congratulations to Stonewater on 1st place win in Rock.

You guys rock! Awesome!

To all fans of ringbang and reggae music!

Legendary British artist, Eddy Grant, will perform his hit “Gimme Hope J’Anna at the Nelson Mandela 90th Birthday Celebration in Hyde Park, London, UK on June 27, 2008. The international music icon will commence his European Reparation Tour in the UK on June 29-July 12, 2008. This will be the first appearance in the UK for Eddy Grant in 20 years. A world tour will follow with appearances in Ireland, Switzerland, Italy, Austria, Germany, Holland, UK, Belgium and France. Eddy is one of my favourite performers and his unique style and ability to mesmerise his audience transcends all age groups. He also plays a variety of instruments and owns his own record label-Ice Records.

Grammy award winning British reggae artists, Steel Pulse, with lead vocalist, David “Dread” Hinds, will be performing at Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada on July 4, 2008. Visit the “No More Weapons” link on my profile page for the Steel Pulse Official website with current 2008 tour dates. If you like to skank, this is the group you want to see. Straight up pop/reggae stylin’! I love em’!

I have been up listening to new artists on Our Stage for two nights now. You guys are awesome. The talent pool here is incomprehensible. Music rocks my world!!!

A world without music is like a world without air. I bought my first piano (an upright) when I was 24 years old. My late son was sent for piano lessons at eight years old and I had to listen to the loud practice sessions after school. After a while, the bangs on the keys actually became pleasant sounds. My daughter bought her first hip hop CD at age 8. She stood on the sofa with a pretend mike in her hand and bellowed out the intonations she heard. She was writing her own lyrics and popping by age 12. Her songs were from the heart but she was too shy to perform in public. As for me, music is my life. I studied classical and Russian ballet for more than twenty years. My favourite composer is the late Johann Sebastian Bach. I love pop, hip hop, reggaeton, country, latin, reggae and jazz. I have heard the best boys’ choir in Europe perform in the Basilica-the students of the Escolania de Montserrat in Spain. They sing like angels and they have the appearance of cherubs. I have seen Leontyne Price perform “Aida” and I have been wowed by Herbie Hancock at Lincoln Centre in New York City. My favourite reggae performance was Steel Pulse, Third World and Peter Tosh, live at Radio City, New York. I use music to expand my horizons and heal my innermost soul.
