July, What A Ride!

July was certainly very exciting for me and I have my fans to thank for that. Mississippi Blues finished 4th in the John Lennon Song Writing channel, Time To Say Goodbye finished 6th in Traditional Country, The Music Is Moving finished 1st in experimental and then went on to finish 39th overall in the music finals. Just being near the top is an honor considering how many talented people there are on Ourstage.

This month should be exciting as well! I have one new song entered as well as two old songs.

The first song Don’t Offer Me Shelter was originally entered on Ourstage as an acoustic song with just me and a guitar. I have taken that same song, added a complete band and re-recorded it as a rock song.

My other recycled song is Times Man Of The Year, This time I have entered it into country because I believe it is a good blue collar class song with a modern country feel. Although, I did not re-record this song, I did re-engineer it on my computer, The result is a faster more upbeat tempo song which will hopefully keep the attention of the listener longer.

The third song I am entering is Frequency Modulation #7, a song inspired by the group Kraftwerk as well as the rhythms of house music. I am still fairly new to electronic music and am learning new stuff every day. I guess that is why I was so surprised to win the experimental channel last month. Frequency Modulation #7 will be entered in the Electronic / Electronic Pop channel.

Also, in August be on the lookout for my new song Crazy Boys, Conflicted Girls. This song is currently being worked on in studio and should be ready for release and uploaded near the end of the month. Currently, you can hear the original acoustic version that was recorded in my living room by going to my profile. The new version will feature drums, guitar, piano and bass.

Again thanks to all my supporters and fans on Ourstage. I also want to wish everyone who has songs entered this month Good Luck!

The Ourstage Effect

Just 3 months ago music was just a hobby for me. I played guitar, sang songs and wrote music mostly for my own amusement. Once in awhile I’d get the itch to sing in front of a crowd and seek out a local open mic night. That was the extent of my music career. 3 months ago I found Ourstage and everything changed. People had always told me I was a good songwriter so, I decided to take some of my home recordings and upload them to Ourstage. My songs suprisingly held there own. One of my songs finished 39th. Since, that first month I have spent a lot of time a money re-recording all my songs trying to improve my chances for competing for a top spot. All the songs I started out with have been removed and replaced with better quality recordings. Although my funds are limited I keep striving to do better. I have been playing music on and off for 25 years but the last 3 months have been the most productive for me, all because of Ourstage.

Ourstage has been great for many reasons. First of all their staff is always very friendly and helpful. Especially Daniel who is always ready to help a fellow musician or an Ourstage fan. I have also made a lot of great friends on Ourstage, they have helped through thier critiques and ideas make me a better musician as well. Last but not least it is great to hear the creative new talents out there who will be the future of music.

So, I just want to say Thanks to Ourstage and all the wonderful musicians and fans that make this all work!!!
