I’ve been happy and grateful for the response to the song My Cousin Married a Chicken. Most people are laughing and that is a good thing, but they also have a few questions. Here are some of them. —-- What was I thinking? I was thinking there just aren’t enough chicken songs. Chickens are funny. Relatives weird. Universal themes. On that particular day it all seemed logical. Was I drinking when I wrote it? No. I can’t claim that excuse. Really can’t write when I drink. Do I have pets? Not sure what they’re getting at with that one, but no, not right now, at least not that I have to feed. Three neighborhood cats like to lounge in our yard until supper. We’re friendly without the commitment. Do I hate my family? Not as far as they know. Do I live on a farm or was I raised on a farm? No and no. I have spent a lot of time in the country. Had a family ranch when I was growing up, but lived in town. City boy now. Have I ever owned a chicken? My Uncle Shep owned chickens. My grandfather was in the chicken business when I was a little kid. My brother-in-law currently has chickens at the Bootjack Dancehall. But, no, I have never personally owned or operated a chicken and I don’t see it in my future. I do have to say, though, they are really funny to watch. Is all my music this crazy?
