OPTOMETRIST's blog

SO FAR SO GOOD!!! HERE ARE SOME 2ND QUARTER HIGHLIGHTS JUST FOR NOW...

Peace!!! Once again it’s ya boy OPTOMETRIST doin’ the do as usual and keepin’ all my fans and supporters updated with the kid’s movements. As noted previously, it has been a productive 1st quarter and the productivity only continues to be lucrative in the 2nd quarter, making the year of 2008 successful ya’ll!!!

SECOND QUARTER HIGHLIGHTS OF 2008: OPTOMETRIST won 2nd place in the St. John’s University “Express Yourself Talent Competition” 4/2008 performing the smash hit single SUPER RHYMES.

www.CULTUREVI.com wrote an ill review on OPT’s debut album “SUPER RHYMES: The Pen & Pad Chronicles” and gave the album an overall 8/10 score. If you still don’t have the album, you definitely need to step ya hip hop album inventory up and cop it…Just go on the site click reviews and read on…then pull that plastic out or cash and cop the album if you haven’t already done so!!!

In light of the disgusting verdict of the acquittal to the cops who negligently murdered Sean Bell, OPT dropped an exclusive 16 bar verse on the issue of police brutality called, “What Can I Do?!” AVAILABLE FOR FREE DOWNLOAD This track was produced and written by OPTOMETRIST.

The Hip Hop Subway Series is not a Yankees verse Mets thang. It’s full of singers, poets, and emcees who express verses of freestyles and/or writtens to the sound of beatboxin, and hands bangin on the seats and walls of the MTA’s trains. The theme was “The Future” and OPTOMETRIST layed down his point of view freestyle on the future. Footage will be available shortly and it may even hit the upcoming mixtape: “WHOZ YA FAVORITE EMCEE?!”...hint…hint…

COAHSI (Council on the Arts & Humanities for Staten Island)held a panel discussion on “Who’s Next? Staten Island’s Young, Emerging Artists” and OPT was selected to be a panelist representing the Hip Hop artists on Staten Island. The public was invited and was definitely a great networking pool of opportunities at this event.

AND OF COURSE STAY CONNECTED FOR MORE UPDATES TO COME FROM OPTOMETRIST…REMEMBER, WHEN I SAY HIP! YA’LL GO HOP!!!!!...

BIG MOVES BEING MADE FOR THE 2ND QUARTER...BUT HERE ARE SOME 1ST QUARTER HIGHLIGHTS THAT OPT HAS SUCCEEDED!!!

Peace!!! Once again it’s ya boy OPTOMETRIST keepin’ all my fans and supporters updated with the kid’s movements. It’s been a productive and progressive 1st quarter for 2008. First, big up to the G-MEN, NY GIANTS for comin’ home w/the Super Bowl 42 victory. (LOOK OUT FOR THE SUPER RHYMES/SUPER BOWL REMIX BY OPTOMETRIST COMING SOON)

FIRST QUARTER HIGHLIGHTS OF 2008: The New York Urban League (Staten Island Branch) held an event in memory of Martin Luther King, Jr for MLK’s birthday @ CSI. (THE COLLEGE OF STATEN ISLAND) OPT was invited to grace the stage with his smash hit SUPER RHYMES.

OTHELLO RECORDS held an event for Black History month @ THE ST. GEORGE THEATER. OPT was invited to grace the stage with his smash hit SUPER RHYMES.

www.ourstage.com holds contests every month for videos and music and yup, you guessed it, OPTOMETRIST came out as the TOP 10 in Hip Hop Music Videos for his smash hit SUPER RHYMES. OPT was officially 5th place in the month of February.

MENTAL SUPREME’S TRAINING CAMP 1000 DOLLAR TUESDAYS is held every last Tuesday of the month. This is a hip hop competition where the elite of all elite emcees come out to perform there smash hits. Although OPTOMETRIST did not come in 1st place, he made 3rd place and as long as an emcee is in the TOP 5, he remains to provide a dosage of SUPER RHYMES needed in these days and times.

THE SOURCE MAGAZINE has a “SPIT YA HOT 16” competition that OPTOMETRIST laced. Wait for the footage to be uploaded on The Source Magazine’s website and vote for ya boy OPT.

This is an event held in NYC so all my true emcee heads know about this, and if y’all don’t know well you’ve been informed. Y’all should definitely come through and rep ya skills and tell ‘em OPT sent cha. Anyway, those accomplishments meant a lot to me ‘cause Feb is my birthday month. As a matter of fact, the day of the “1000 Dollar Tuesday Showcase” it was my birthday (2/26/08). Pisces stand up!!! Once again, I’m just throwin love back to those who threw the love at me. PAYOLA = PAY 2 PLAY (IS THIS THE GAME?!) PART I OF MANY MORE TO COME!!!

What up to all my peeps, fans, friends, family, haters, enemies, and all that good stuff. It’s OPTOMETRIST just droppin some gems like I’m known to do in my lyrics. There is an issue at hand that has always existed but I need y’all opinion(s) on this situation.

Now, no matter what field ya driven towards, we’ve all heard the phrase “PAY YA DUES”. O.K., that’s fine ‘cus one has to grind & don’t expect for someone else to grind for you. But what happens when ya on ya grind to grind like a 9-5, 6-12 combined, and you got all these fake ass promoters, djs, and of course our lovely a&rs who fiend for large amounts of cash in order to get put on and leads to no where. Here’s an example, and I won’t mention any names (DAMN, MAYBE NEXT TIME).

I’ve performed at many venues & competitions, some of which you had to pay to play and some were free. The performance rates range from $100.00-$400.00 (The most I’ve ever paid…DAMN THAT’S A CAR NOTE-LOL). These promoters want the artist(s) to sell tix, meanwhile the artist needs to sell albums (ISN’T THAT THE PRIMARY GOAL?). Now the artist makes the promoters a ton of money alone from ticket sales, lets not count the bar, and at the end of the night the artist gets 0% of what is made for the promoter. They claim that they pay the club owner and it covers the cost of flyers to promote the event.

I’mma call a spade a spade cus these clowns are jokers. Let’s do the math. These events usually have 10-15 artists on the roster. 10 x $400 (each artist sold tix for that amt)= 4000.00. It cost that much to promote the event? How? Did y’all bitch ass promoters put a commercial on HOT 97, or put a full page ad in the VIBE MAGAZINE w/all the artists pictures/info, or did y’all simply pay y’all baby’s mammas for that child support that y’all needed to catch up on-LOL. The funny thing is that the only time that I get my face on the flyer is when it is not a pay to play event/competition. I performed at the ST. GEORGE THEATER 2/23/08, I didn’t pay a red penny for that event, and my name and face was planted on the flyer like “BLAOW!!”. Ya know the kid took advantage of that situation and sold some cds & shirts, and signed some posters for the fans.

That’s not how the game was portrayed to me though. I’ve heard lots of stories, and correct me if I’m wrong, where the artist has few album sales but makes a good fortune off of performances yet it’s the total opposite for us indie hip hop heads.

This is just part 1 of many more to come and I hope I gave heads some food for thought.

Cop the album if you haven’t already copt it, “SUPER RHYMES: THE PEN & PAD CHRONICLES” @ www.cdbaby.com/cd/optometristmusic, continue to vote for the kid, and support real hip hop cus it’s far from dead as long as OPTOMETRIST droppin the hotness. From Staten Island to worldwide y’all. PEACE!!!
