About a year ago I was listening to a demo song that came with my upright electric piano. I liked it so much I was determined to learn how to play it. It was called “Rondo Ala Turka” by Mozart. Since older classical music is free domain now, I printed it out and was sooooo disappointed at how difficult the sheet music looked. I can read music but this was ”?@#$% rediculous” and I knew I could never do this on my own so I began looking for a piano teacher to help me learn this piece. Well, it wasn’t easy because I needed someone to work around my busy schedule and one teacher wanted $200.00 per month ($50.00 per 45 minute lesson) because she was a “concert pianist”. In the meantime I was impatient and began plunking out one note at a time by painstakingly counting up and down the staff trying to figure out what the notes were way up there in space and way down there in China.

All I can say is that after about 3 months I could play 5 pages!! This is just spending a few minutes a day with something that I believed impossible for me to do. I believe that quote now when someone listened to an accomplished painist and said, “I’d give anything to be able to play like that” and he replied back, “If that were true, you WOULD be able to play like me”. Where there’s a will there’s a way, overused but right on. I’m still not over the excitement of being able to sit down and play this awesome mozart piece from beginning to end so like I said, “You can do more than you think you can”, take it from me, a musical pessimist turned optimist.
