First Kill: Moment of Truth

by wilsonscastaway

A short film depicting a soldier about to make his first kill in war. Just before he pulls the trigger, his thoughts dwell on the fact that this will only be the beginning of something that he will have to do many times over.

Ok, the film's does have some decent cinematography, but just as you pointed out in your email, again your film is completely cliche as well as mine. I've seen this exact scene in many war films, not to mention genre films like Apocolypse Now, Private Ryan, and tons of other war films. The Viet Cong never traveled in groups of one. And you mever explained how this guy got lost in the woods. Where in Vietnam does the bambo grow 40 feet high? Your film is very well shot and edited, but the story has some cliche to it, as does mine cause that's the way it was made on purpose - to be cliche - that was the whole point - to scare. Audiences don't need much thinking about horror flicks and characters aren't that important. While watching your flick again, to make sure I wasn't smoking crack, I still came to the same conclusions. I've made similar films before, but we worked on the story a bit more and I think they turned out rather good, check out "Killer Deal" and "Sudilkov". I also encourage you to watch "No Middle Ground" - which, though not the best, is a good example of good story, meets good technical ability, and you have that, and for 5 hours, it's pretty good, but in the end the story could have been deeper or more developed, as we start to gain interest the movie ends and it leaves too much open ended. I apologize for the remarks above, or below...

This needs to be in the "Weird and Wacky" category. There is no way an amateurish poorly made attempt at a period film short film should have made it this far. If you look at all the quality shorts you have beaten to get to the top 10, buddy, remember, it's because of votes in your favor, this is no reflection of the talent of the filmmakers. It's just like politics, no one cares about the message or the point, it's all about the majority vote. This website needs to put this type of stuff at the back of the line. How in the world your short got this far, amazes me.
