I agree, this does sound like a Lyle Lovett song.
Now, if Lyle Lovett had sang traditional country music many, many years ago, then I believe traditional country music would not have evolved into the country of today. I think it would have rolled over and died!

I like the song a lot.
If you never liked Bob Wills & the Texas Playboys. which combined swing & country, which I feel is quite "traditional" then this song won't do it for you. The Lyle Lovett comparison is right on as well.
