I have watched every frame of the top 20 videos (and most of all 51 entries). Having spent the first six years of my professional life in video production (working my way from editing TV news to writing and taping spots, shorts and working crew on prime time television shows) I know what to look for in quality production. I've also been on the stage in dozens of plays and recognize good acting. For the life of me I can't figure out why this is only sitting at #10 as I write this. This short is clearly the number one entry in this contest. Hands down, not even close for #2. Some of the entries that are positioned higher are laughable for acting, production and script. It's frustrating to watch real talent languish. I hope when the pack thins in the next round that more people will come back and take another critical look at this entire piece and see it for what it truly is...the winner of this contest.
I loved the acting in this. I thought D.L. Walker was very believable in his character. The filming was great as well. There was a variety of shooting styles, camera angles and POV. I thought the lighting conveyed the emotion of the story very well and added to the effect. I love watching the change in expression in D.L. as he goes from fear of the intruder to absolute dread over the decision he made to take a life and then the reality that he had to move on. This is by far my favorite of the videos in this contest and in my mind is the clear winner.
