"Can't Get Through To You" was written in New York City in 2008. The track starts out with a "1-2-3-4" count and was inspired by classic punk bands like The Ramones and Johnny Thunders & The Heartbreakers. When it came time to record the guitar solo, the producers told the lead guitar player to "play some random sh*t."
