This song is about trying to outrun rumors. I first began writing it 3 years ago while teaching middle school. The opening line was written based on an argument 2 kids had. The song stalled until after I moved to LA and struck up a friendship with an actress. She had remarked "my fame has preceded me", and the song came back. I also added a line my dad used to say, "a man is measured by the worth of his word". Moving back to Boston, my friend Will Dailey helped piece the rest together.
