When I wrote Velcro I was in a very hard time, at the end of a long term relationship with the first girl I loved. The song is about how it is so to detach from someone that you have loved for so long. Just how it is difficult to pull velcro apart, it is the same with someone you love. And If you don't try to tear it apart than it will probably stick forever.
