This is an adaptation of the traditional Celtic song "Black is the Color." No one knows exactly when this song was written, but the earliest known versions were said to be along the Appalachian Mountain region of United States in 1915, but most probably originated from Scotland, as attributed to reference to Clyde in the song's lyrics.
