Crudelis Amor

by Maudlin Ash

Crudelis Amor (Cruel Love or Brutal Passion) This title refers to the passage in Virgil’s work The Aeneid where he talks about Pasiphae and the bull whose violent love/lust results in the birth of the minotaur. The love was brought on by a curse from Poseidon and so was not completely natural. Like many rock songs, this is about lost or cursed love. It’s that violent love/lust one feels that’s not completely reciprocated. We’ve all been there.
