Portrait of Darowyn
"Too many protest singers, not enough protest songs" (Edwin Collins)
I agree with the second part of Edwin's line, and Andrew is adding a superb song to the list of protest songs.
He delivers the strong lyric clearly over a good melody, and I appreciate the lyrics written out.
It shows they are as good as I thought at first hearing.
My top vote in this battle- because I feel that Andrew really cares about people in the present social/ political situation.

Words:

Standing here I know
I seem so close
Man, if you only knew

How far I feel
among stones and steel
picture crucifixions painted on cubes

Silent as gold
hanging from a stolen soul
whose wishes for the world never amount

To its minutes and months
full of stupid tricks and stunts
moving too fast for any man to count

Beyond the silver he holds
and the blood attached
careful, so his conscience can’t attack

Then there are the ones who know the purpose of
every joke and test
Assured they are blessings not curses as
everything is always for the best
But Francois, my friend I’ve got to tell ya’
This story’s ending looks alot
like the beginning
With the holiest of houses built for nothing except to
say who is sinning
Against this right and this wrong strung along
from the latest victory
Between a caravan of lunatics
and a parading insanity

There is word that is used
in the air on the news
Though I am never sure for whom

Some say it got the slaves
out of their graves
in Southern cities with English names

Held the hobo straight
when he flew off on the freight
in the land of fortune’s fools

Where they teach you how to buy
with every second of your time
a white horse for death and pride’s children

And ride a course set to stay
by the masters who hold sway
over men who keep their chains well hidden
