The mindset of "contemporary western" is to write with the working cowboy of today in mind. The lyrics assume a familiarity with horses, and this song takes us into a small barn with a couple horses inside, ready for their morning feed. I wrote this song to permanently anchor our time in TN in music, capturing the nostalgia of our experiences. My wife's horse is named "Clown," a red-roan paint...and the "brown mare" is my sis-in-law's horse.
