musically, this song owes a lot to bluegrass and punk. banjos and mandolins along side cellos and trumpet. and you can hear the pop-punk in the vocal melodies/harmonies of the chorus. lyrically, it owes a lot to friendship. its about two childhood friends of mine who both grew up to be singer-songwriters. i saw one of them when he came through new york on what was turning out to be a real bust of a tour and he asked me, "is it crazy for me to even be trying to do this?"
