People hide behind God and or religion to justify there actions or inactions. Then there's also the " my God or religion is better than yours" mentality too. So this was written in reaction to that kind of thinking.

I agree with the previous comment. This song takes aim at the passive. It walks the line between placing the blame and making a case for the opening of ones eyes. Not only is it catchy, but poignant as well. Great track and continued success.

A protest song needs a target for protest, and George has picked the perfect target- the use of religion to justify injustice and opression.
You could play this in church, or you could play it in a bar. Either way people would know it for a very good song that tells it like it is (as we used to say).
It's beautifully arranged performed and recorded, and I give it my best recommendation.
