Wandering through the alleys of Austin I stumbled across a path that was not there before. I remeber the sky as neon orange with a spill of dark blue trying to pull it down and then I saw it. I was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma to a father who worshiped the Beatles and a mother who wanted out of Tulsa. So there you have it, I am steeped in melodies and experimentation, yet I am constantly seeking a way out. It was not long before my mother, brother and I made it out of Oklahoma and landed in Houston, Texas. It was there that I first awoke to the sound of my own songs. I spiraled with several beautiful bands and eventually found my way to Austin. I have been playing and singing for about 15 years in Houston and Austin. It is only now that I realize that everything I wanted to share is possible through one lone voice with the accompaniment of an acoustic guitar. I have recorded several times in the past and the Broken String Julius music was made throughout this period. These are songs that I always wanted to claim as my own. I recorded them with a friend who was going through a rough time and this energy has seeped into these pieces, which only enhances their message of loss, endings and beginnings. In conclusion, Broken String Julius is all my demons and angels falling into the open while I commentate on which side is winning on that given day.
