Our heart felt appreciation to Yona and his warrior drum for the great job at Live Oak this past weekend. We are honored to be acknowledged by one of the few who are authorized to speak for his chief and council. To all who came to listen and support us at the powwow we extend our heart felt thanks.
Even in the face of unseasonably cold weather our turn out on Sunday was the best of the event. There were over 120 people around the circle itself and several dozen others in and around the grounds and vendor booths. The support shown by the public helped several of our traveling vendors even in the face of the current economic crisis.
Just a reminder to those who know and an announcement to those who do not know, that the Firewalker’s Legacy Hart Springs powwow will be open on Thanksgiving Day for all dancers, performers and vendors. A large camp feed consisting of the traditional Thanksgiving Day fare will be served to one and all. Any of the public who wish to stop by are welcome as we will likely have some “spur of the moment” dancing, singing and performing.
Once again we thank all who made it possible for the success of our performances at the FNAIS powwow this past weekend. Due to some misdirection and confusion in personnel assignments, Saturday evening’s and Sunday’s performances were solo efforts by WhiteWolf. A big thank you to all who inquired about Silverhawk and expressed their concern and best wishes.
Friday’s attendance was dismal at best and it looked to be the same on Saturday morning however, an hour prior to the afternoon Grand Entry the crowds started to gather. Saturday evening’s and Sunday’s Grand Entries were attended by some good sized crowds. A big THANK YOU to Conrad and Anthony for attending in full Northern Traditional dance regalia. A special thank you to Conrad and KAtlin for filling in, impromptu, as head man and head lady dancer.
We wish to thank all who assisted in the Wildlife/Conservation Refuge Day performances yesterday at the federal refuge in Crystal River. This year the refuge director, Ivan, got the proper word out to the press so that the ceremonial smudging we conducted to start the day was described for what it is – a ceremonial smudging and not an “Indian Blessing” as so many have called it previously. After all, we are men, not Gods. We do not bless anything.
Our thanks to Dan for the sound setup and to Stalking Wolf for acting as a surrogate stage hand. To everyone who was present and showed such respect we also extend our gratitude.
The event went on Caribbean time (aka: Indian time) and didn’t get underway until a bit after the scheduled 0900 start. There were a few delays with the presenters who spoke prior to the musical entertainment so we didn’t go on at 0930 as planed but at 10:05 instead.
We were honored to be included with the caliber of musicians who performed. The other acts impressed us quite a lot. We were all able to exchange information so we can hopefully meet up some day and have a great jam session.
In closing we wish to remind everyone that wildlife conservation and protection is something we all must keep up as stewards of our mother the earth. To all the groups and individuals who keep and operate the numerous wildlife refuges, many at their own expense, we extend our most heart felt and sincere thanks.
Wado Equa!
LoneWolf is involved with some efforts with artists from west central Florida. They are looking for some additional band members so check out the blog and get the information if you are interested.
