We Were Lovers
We Were Lovers is a 5 piece dreamy, melodic rock band. Formed in 2007, the band (then a 6 piece) concurrently released an EP titled ‘The Breakup’ and played their last show with that line up.
Ash and Elsa continued to jam together determined to pick up the pieces and follow their hearts. Inheriting a double duty role, lead vocalist Elsa bought a synth to play and write new songs with guitarist Ash, along with a laptop drum machine in a lonely jam space. The two did this for months until they received a response to their search for new members. Jeshaiah was that response and conveniently the perfect fit. After what seemed to be an incessant influx of different bassists and drummers, Jeshaiah suggested getting together with two old friends whose bands often played together long ago.
Zachary Lucky, an astute electric guitar player (Tuxedo Mask) and growing folk singer/songwriter, as well as Jordan Kurtz (Tuxedo Mask, Boycott Scott) a former front man, and pianist, filled in the roles of bassist and drummer. The instant connection between the five of them resulted in making the We Were Lovers family complete.
Within the two months of the WWL reformation, ‘Birds of a Feather’ from their EP (available on iTunes) was chosen to be in the November issue of New York based CMJ’s New Music Mag Compilation CD accompanied by a mini-feature in the magazine. They showcased at the 2008 Western Canadian Music Awards resulting in an invitation to play at the prestigious South By Southwest music festival in Austin, TX. which they showcased at this past March with the New York Dolls as the headliners. They preceded the festival with an Eastern Canadian Tour (Saskatoon – Montreal).
With many new songs written, another tour of eastern Canada and the U.S. and new full length album on the horizon, WWL plan to add to the momentum they have already created.
