Newly formed band Waiting for Bobby is just beginning their journey into the music scene in New York City. Their style is indie pop/rock with a touch of electro and grunge. At the moment, the band is working hard to ready themselves for the upcoming Battle of the Boroughs. Rehearsing, writing, and shaping their sound, the band also hopes to be ready to announce some new gigs within the next month.
The band was started by Aparna Muralidharan, the keyboardist, who found the other bandmates through craiglist, music festivals, and good old-fashioned word of mouth. Aparna enjoys house music, house MD, and house parties. She loves House. She has been playing keys for as long as she can remember, with classical training in both western and carnatic Indian styles. She dreams of one day having sex on a baby grand. As a child, vocalist Heather Siler listened to musical theatre and pretended to be Julie Andrews. However, she grew to love the 80s, pop, rock, and new wave, and her biggest influence today in music and fashion is Debbie Harry, of Blondie. Her motto is – “What would Debbie wear?” Bassist Manya Kuzemchenko likes music, art, and sandwiches. If Dave Grohl was raised by wolves, she was raised by lions. Then there is guitarist Jack Macco, whose influences are The Beatles, Zeppelin, Sabbath, Sex Pistols, Nirvana, and Jane’s Addiction. He recently came back from the base camp of Mt. Everest in the Himalayas. The backbone of the band is drummer David Kortum. Born in Nebraska but orphaned at birth, Dave beat the odds and still made it to the big city despite being raised by a pack of less than cordial prairie dogs, yes, prairie dogs. Don’t let that fool you – he may have been raised by prairie dogs, but he plays drums like a wolf.
Waiting for Bobby hopes to have an official new demo completed by the end of the summer. They plan to spend many hours practicing, followed by brainstorming (and drinking) at the Irish Pub down the block from the rehearsal studio. “All the way, that’s how we roll.” www.myspace.com/waitingforbobby
