On the eve of the Canadian Election, and one of the most important elections of our times on the horizon, I’m excited to share an MP3 from my brand new EP that I’ll be proudly releasing in November.
The songs called “New York, USA,” and it will be one of 5 tracks on an EP called “Whatever It Takes.”
I’ve been hard at work out in BC playing some new music off the EP, and will be heading to Texas Friday. It all culminates with a full band blow out CD release on Nov 25 at the Rockwood Music Hall here in NYC.
Exciting things, exciting times.
You can download New York, USA for free, or listen to the brand new track HERE
Thanks again for the support. I’m very excited to share some new music with you, and some brand new things I’ve been cooking up to further get the tunes out to you.
Musically yours,
Tyler
On my first evening as a 28 year old, I figured I’d say hello and catch you all up on the happenings over the last few months. I know you all wake up everyday wondering what I’m up to, and I’m sorry to have disappointed you all. I promise to do better in the future. In all reality, I know you’re all incredibly busy, so I would be honored if you took a second to read some of the exciting things that happened, and are in the works.
1. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
First, I want to say thanks for signing up on the list. I’m talking to you fine folks in Ontario and Quebec. I really appreciate you allowing me to be in your life once a month or so, and I look forward to coming back up to Canada to play some more. The highlight of the trip was chatting with you all after the shows. Thanks a million!
2. Ontario and Quebec was incredible!
I am the luckiest guy ever to have shared the stage with some amazing folks throughout our tour. Specifically Karen Kosowski. She killed it every night, and was an inspiration. If you have a chance, check her out. (http://www.karenkosowski.com) Also, a big thank you to Trevor James, Peter Katz, and Wes Walls. It was incredible to go back home and hear such amazing artists, who are all doing amazing things. For my American friends, I urge you to check them all out.

Also, it was great to see so many old friends on Canada Day in Toronto. It was so great to see the Higgins, who are tearing up the Canadian country scene, and the Johnny Reid crew. Most of all, it was great to see all the Tartan Army members I haven’t seen in a while. Again, for all my American friends, take a second to check out the Higgins and Johnny. Great Canadian country music.

3. Googie’s Piano Night!
Thank you Danny Ross for putting together such a fun evening. Myself, Danny, Shanna Zell, and Sarah Renfro all did a set at the Living Room upstairs, and it was definitely an inspiring evening. I’ve been told there’s plans for another one in September.
Check them out…

4. A new EP is coming!
My absence is not without reason. I have been working hard with one of my good friends, David Little, to bring you a much more upbeat, in your face, experimental EP entitled “New York, USA.” We’ve experimented with programming, piano sounds, and saxophone, to bring you five brand new tunes. I’m heading up to Canada to spend two weeks working on the final touches, and we should have pre-release copies for sale in BC late September, with a Fall release.
5. We’re coming to BC, and Texas!
It looks like I’ve finalized some BC dates, finally! I’m coming out, with a few friends, to bring some of this new music to some great venues. Then…we head off to Texas. All details are being worked out, but I could not be more excited to come home with brand new stuff, and then head off to my home away from home, the great state of Texas. Stay tuned for more info.
If you’ve made it this far, thanks for reading! I truly appreciate you taking the time, and energy to keep up to date on what’s been going on. The music world is changing, for the better I believe, and it’s becoming a lot more about the music, musicians, and the fans. I couldn’t do it without your support. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
I hope you all have had a fantastic summer so far, and I hope to catch up with you in the Fall at a club near you.
All the best from your Canadian friend in NYC,
Tyler
I am a huge Billy Joel fan. If you ask my mom, “And So It Goes” is the greatest song ever written. “Storm Front” revolutionized pop music for me. In the past 6 months, things seem to have come full circle. I’ve recorded an album with the very engineer that was turning the knobs when “And So It Goes” was recorded, and to top it all off, last Saturday night, I was asked to do an amazing thing.
A gentlemen contacted me, to sing “She’s Got A Way” while he proposed to his girlfriend at Bryant Park in midtown Manhattan. I carted my keyboard down, and with the help of a vendor manager in the park, surprised the bride with the song. I’ve played a lot of strange gigs, including dressing up like a sperm (don’t ask), but this one was not only strange, but amazing. I know this sounds lame, but it in someway renewed my faith in music. I am a lover of the 70’s. I listen to, and grew up with music from the 70’s. I can safely say, that Britney Spears, Gwen Stefani, or Rhianna, will NEVER be played in a moment like this. It was incredible. Never before have I felt this way about the power of songwriting, and the shear fact that music should touch people, as well as get them up on the dance floor.
On another note, I’ve been asked to be a part of some amazing and incredible things in the next month or so.
On May 19th, I’m flying to Beijing. Yup. Beijing. I’ve been asked to be a representative of my beloved home province that I miss dearly, British Columbia. I’m playing a solo piano gig, and singing the national anthem. Not only will I be singing ‘Oh Canada’ in front of BC’s Premier, but some of China’s most dignified representatives. It should be amazing.
Also…this Saturday, I’ll be a part of a completely crazy, hipster filled party in Bushwick. I’m playing in a songwriters round at a party that puts all other parties to shame. It’s run by Addtract, which regularly puts on parties in Brooklyn, filled with crazy art, crazy music, and unbelievable artistic talent. Needless to say, I’m wondering why I’ve been invited…
I’ll be playing the “french parlour” room, with Mr. Danny Ross, and Ms. Sarah Renfro. I can only imagine the amount of Sam Adams and Pabst that will be consumed.
With that said, I’m breaking out the saxophone on Sunday, to play my first official singer-songwriter show at Waltz-Astoria with the loop pedal. I’ve worked up some fun stuff, to include some brand new tunes. Ms. Debbie Miller will be joining me on Sunday night, so it should be a good time.
If you’ve read this far, thank you. If not, I will do better next time to write less.
Enjoy your Wednesday night.
Tyler
Hope you all had a great weekend.
I just wanted to write a quick note to let you know I’ve posted some videos from our show we did on Tuesday at the Bowery Poetry Club. It was the first evening with the brand new Trio, and it was a whole lot of fun.
We played several new songs, one you can see below, entitled “Waitin’ On The Sun To Shine”.
“Waitin’ On The Sun To Shine”
It’s looking like we’ll be in the studio April 30th to begin a brand new full band EP, which will take us nicely into the Canadian tour we have coming up in Ontario, as well as the BC homecoming shows in September.
Exciting times here in the city, and I hope you enjoy the new videos. I should have even more to share from the CD release show coming up!
Take care, and have a great Monday!
Tyler
