WHO IS TROO CALLIN?
TROO CALLIN Many are chosen, but few answer their calling.
22 year old, Hawthorne, CA native Daniel “Troo Callin” Hillman has dedicated his life to not only being the truth, but living up to his name. “I’ve seen a lot growing up in the streets. Rapping is my true calling cause I can tell my story and interact with people through my music,” explains Troo.
Since the age of 8, Troo Callin has been in love with music. He learned to play drums in church, and moved on to creating beats by the age of thirteen. “Beats kept me out of trouble.” Music production motivated him to learn more about his craft, and also challenged him to pursue his goal of being an artist. After a short stint as resident producer for then group Young Decision, the experience made him focus even more on getting in the booth. “I was always a deep thinker but then I started reading books and thought, ‘What about bars? What’s my flow?’” Troo started working on his poetry and rhyme patterns, and it wasn’t long before he birthed the 11-song underground mixtape entitled Bookbag Music, Volume 1. “I could come out of the bag with anything. Bookbag music is everything – dudes don’t carry diaries but they’ll carry composition books. I always have my composition, my knowledge is in my bookbag.”
“Bookbag Music, Volume 1” is a gumbo of experiences – from disappointment to dedication, to being hustled and eventually creating his own hustle, Troo talks about it all. On the track “Get Up, Get Out, and Do Something,” Troo calls out to the youth to BE the change we need in the world. “I don’t shy away from talking about world and community issues. It’s cool to have fun on the mic, but I can’t be afraid to put everything on the table.”
Troo Callin has hit the ground running with his single “Can I Have a Piece of That” about finding the best way to approach an attractive woman. His second single “LOL” is getting a lot of internet buzz, while his remix to Jamie Foxx’s hit song “Blame It” has everyone in the streets talking. “I’m influenced by so many styles and artists, so there’s no telling what I may come up with.”
Best believe, Troo Callin isn’t just another wordsmith in the game. His unique, raspy sound mixed with his undeniable charm & personality will definitely put Hawthorne on the map. And with musical inspirations ranging from Nas to Ice Cube to Keith Murray to Kanye West, Troo is following in the footsteps of some of the greatest to ever bless the mic.
“Rapping has given me a voice, and I won’t stop til the world hears me.” Sound like Troo is staying true to his Callin!
