Born and based in Paris, T-ka (taken from the Indian Tikka symbol) started composing pop melodies in 2000 to accompany her soulful voice. Born and based in Paris, T-ka (taken from the Indian Tikka symbol) started composing pop melodies in 2000 to accompany her soulful voice. She started her career performing solo vocal/piano performances in Paris, Little and New York. In 2004, she opened for Maceo Parker in Paris and currently lends her voice to different 'electro' projects such as Almost Hydrofoiling by Bikini Rumble released in 2005 (Montera Music/La Baleine). In 2006, she self-produced her first album and went on to win the prestigious 'Nouv'elles' bands contest. Then in 2007 T-ka opened for Tower of Power, Malia and Robin Thicke in France. She also played in the Enghien Jazz Festival, Solidays and Muzik'elles. On 5th November 2007, T-ka became the 11th artist to crowd sourced a $50,000 recording budget on SellaBand.com. Thanks to the support of 684 believers T-ka recorded her first album 'And maybe a tree will rise out of me...' in California. Sylvia Massy (Prince, Skunk Anansie) produced the album and was accompanied by talented musicians such as Jeff Pevar (Ray Charles, Nash) on guitar; Stevie D (David Gilmour, Nash) on drums; Tibo Barbillon (Nouvelle Vague) on bass and Bill Holloman (Diana Ross, Nile Rodgers) on horns. The album was released on 14th July 2008 on SellaBand, iTunes, CDBaby, Amiestreet and Amazon.co.uk/de. The album is due for release in French stores on 27th October 2008.
