About the White Roses
Peace, Love, White Roses
Heather Rose (the leader of the band) is a singer songwriter currently studying Professional Music at the Berklee College of Music. Her band the White Roses has successfully played several shows in Boston.
While at school, Heather resides in Boston. Otherwise, she has her home base in Half Moon Bay, California.
Heather has been studying, performing and creating music ever since the age of six. She participated in a local theatre company for ten years. This set the foundation for her performing abilities. As a child she always knew she was going to wind up being a professional musician. It is now quickly coming into reality.
Berklee was Heather’s first choice college. She felt it was the best place for her to develop her skills as a performing songwriter. Berklee is the only music school in the world that offers the Professional Music Major where students can craft their own major. It allows them to put the emphasis of their studies into areas they show most interest. Heather plans to major in Professional Music with a Songwriting primary emphasis and an Engineering sub-emphasis. Currently in her 2nd semester, she plans to graduate in the fall of 2009.
The White Roses released their first self- titled full-length album in January of 2008. Heather had done several demo records prior to this, but this was her first professional album. Heather wrote or co-wrote most of the songs. She also played multiple instruments on the tracks and sang all vocals. She was complimented by a group of session players from the San Francisco Bay Area.
Heather is currently working on putting together a permanent lineup of White Roses members. She then plans to make a second White Roses album. With loads of new material inspired by her freshman year at Berklee, it is just a matter of time and logistics before the new songs emerge as White Roses standards.
Like most good musicians, Heather is well rounded and enjoys writing many different genres of music. However she feels closest to blues and rock n’ roll. Growing up in a home with baby-boomer parents, Heather was exposed to a lot of Classic Rock. This along with her own passion for the blues has greatly influenced her musical compositions. When it comes to lyrics, Heather looks to 60’s folk leaders for inspiration. At Berklee she mostly focuses on the lyrical writing styles of Paul Simon, Joni Mitchell, Leonard Cohen and Bob Dylan. She has learned a lot from these great songwriters and it is reflected in her lyrical stylings. In a nutshell, Heather’s original songs are a unique combination of blues based music with lyrics in the folk tradition.
Heather is not your average 18 year old. She plays several instruments such as guitar, piano and alto saxophone. She is a certified Pro Tools operator and either self or co-engineers most of her projects. She is also fluent in Spanish and has written several songs in that language. Heather has traveled to many foreign countries including Italy, France, Spain, Holland, England and Ireland. She hopes to one day live in a Spanish speaking country.
Some of Heather’s hobbies include poker, card games, board games, theatre, dance, jogging, dogs, and spending time at the beach.
For the immediate future, Heather plans to gig in every location possible. She is currently scouting members for an electric band to play with her over the summers in California. After graduation from Berklee, Heather plans to move to Los Angeles to pursue her career as a performing artist.
