A decade and a half ago, a time when a visually abundant Northwest hip hop community dared to keep the torch lit that Sir Mix-A-Lot set aflame, stood a young ambitious Tacoma native (by way of Houston, TX), Shon Peterson, more commonly known as Mr. D.O.G. As the face of Tacoma hip hop, Mr. D.O.G. has been creating classic songs, and serenading impressed audiences, since the late 90's with crafty bars, vivid stories of interurban life and struggles, along with duets with West Coast heavy weights like E-40, Yukmouth, Keak Da Sneak, and many more. In 1996 unsigned and completely self-sufficient, he built the empire which is known today as Bow Wow Records. In his career's 14 year life he the company has released 5 albums, a compilation, Ep, mixtape, toured both nationally as well as internationally and won several awards including KUBE 93fm's 2002 Mayor's Award (for Musical Excellence & Business Acumen). Although the progress seems continuous, there were several road blocks in the young budding rappers path. Early 2003, Mr. D.O.G. was indicted by the feds, sentenced, and served four years for phone count (talking in an uninterpretable dialect on a cellular device). Upon release in late 2006, he hit the ground running, immediately going to work with his follow up album, Backstreets & Boulevards which featured such names as Game, C-Bo, B-Legit, and a bunch more. The album landed him a tour with underground sensation Tech N9ne, and several opportunities to network with even more successful artists and labels. Now in 2010, more seasoned and well rounded, Mr. D.O.G. has put together his 4th and most complete project in “Streets of Tac”. Following his trend of crafty word play, great ear for production, and competitive duets with such names as Snoop Dogg, Crooked I, and Mistah F.A.B., Mr. D.O.G. has evolved and added that long range effect to his hard in the paint presence. The latest installment gives you music for hip hop fans of every walk and features production by Klypso (Jay-Z's “30's the new 20's”), FunkDaddy (E-40's “Sidewayz”), Kuddie Mack, Roc'phella, Eugenius, and Big Squeeze. “I wanted to reach as many people as I could with this one. So I made songs for the riders, songs for the clubs, for the ladies, for the North, South, West, and the East. There is literally something for everyone on here.”.....Mr. D.O.G. In “She's 100” the beat immediately puts your physical being in a trance, forcing you to bounce. Mr. D.O.G. rides this rhythmic track as he narrates to you about the perfect woman. In “Mess with Cuzz” he teams up with two of Long Beach's finest, Snoop Dogg & Crooked I as well as Kokane to create an undeniable west coast anthem. But the most intriguing, controversial, and actually the black sheep song of the album is “Dear Dad” which is a written conversation from a lost child to both his parents in search of proper guidance. Von O.P. does everything but make you cry as he croons to this gut wrenching tale. This one will hit home with the good dads who have been labeled dead beats, kids with no dads, and mothers who do not realize the importance a father has in a child's life.
