The Radio Says… is the new band, conceived by Boston based songwriter/producer [munk]. Noted for his chameleon-like flirtation with a variety of genres, [munk]’s three indie, solo releases saw critical success on national college radio, network television (Super Bowl XLIV Half-Time Show, NCIS, The Sopranos, CBS Sports), international podcasts and press, resulting in over 20,000 paid downloads through international digital outlets like iTunes. After the release of his last CD, Modest Among The Living, [munk]’s Digital Distribution success story was featured in Billboard (May 2008). With a career trajectory that seems like most indie artist’s dream gig, [munk] did the unexpected and took a hiatus in 2009. “So the obvious question is why the hell would I do that, right? I think I started creating with expectations… too focused on where the song would end up, and not about truly exploring what I had to say musically. You really need to possess an intrepid quality to push yourself beyond your comfort zones and take musical chances. I settled into a professional niche, had income from music and an audience and became more and more disenchanted as I stopped writing for me and started writing for everyone else.” Why “The Radio Says…”? “The name is in reference to the psychology of mass hysteria and crowd delusion… like Orwell's broadcast of War of the Worlds. "We interrupt this program" said to a collective consciousness that "what I am about to hear is real". I am most definitely interrupting the program.” How is the new music different from what you’ve done? “In recent years, I’ve had the growing feeling that I haven't done my best work yet and I haven't hit on a sound and voice that was really "me". Not the ‘me’ trying to get my music heard or placed for specific purposes but the music that was me at my core. The songs I’ve been writing and recording for this band have been free from those preconceived ideas. I’m writing and arranging with more organic elements, as well as going back and really immersing myself in music that transcends the time it was written in and attempting to integrate those lessons. I’m more focused and definitely more happy.” The Radio Says… plan to release the debut EP, via Digital Distribution outlets, in late February and will be followed by a tour of the Northeast in Spring 2010.
