“The song is named ‘Obsessed with You' and we're obsessed with it,” writes celebrity blogger Perez Hilton when describing his newfound attachment to that of The Orion Experience. A band, a song, and a feeling felt by so many who have crossed its path, danced to its beats, and screamed out its words. “Nothing can make me smile instantly like yalls music,” comments myspacer Stefanie (heart), when describing her emotional ties to the groups rock n roll sound. And in an age when opinion matters and everyone has a voice, the message is very clear: This band is straight fun.Different, and alike many its past and present counterparts, the New York rock quintet boasts a collection of individual musical resumes that aim to revive a bit of the past, and paint a smile on the face of the future. The concept and face of the band are that of front-man Orion Simprini, who has been diligent and precise in the quest to bring his ideas and music to the world. And in 2005, the journey began with the collaboration of longtime friend and schoolmate Linda Horwatt, whom Orion shares vocal duties, harmonies, sweet keys, hand claps and smiles back. The two spent several years, on both the east and west coasts, honing their craft, recording music and formulating a vision. And with the recent additions of guitarist Reef Fanous, drummer Jon Weber and bassist Chris Lucas, that vision has been fully realized. “What we try to create,” Orion says, “are very positive, high energy musical experiences.” And with their debut, and most recent release, Cosmicandy (2007) the band delivers exactly that; a vibe reminiscent of the late ‘60s and early ‘70s songwriting, spiked with sweet harmonies and toe-tapping beats of the ‘80s and ‘90s pop and power. “The songs from Cosmicandy really drove us to where we are today,” explains Orion, who just recently played opening act for Jesse Malin at the Bowery Ballroom (NYC), and will do the same for UK pop act Los Campesinos in the coming weeks. Not to mention a past resume as guests to popular bands Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Ra Ra Riot and Fountains of Wayne. Now, heading into the summer 2008 music season, The Orion Experience bring a fresh batch of songs from the recording studio. Four new songs with Producer Jon Kaplan (Maroon 5) are slated to hit the digital scene in the coming months alongside promotional tours in Los Angeles, New York and the UK.
