its been a great year for The Kapitals (formerly The Capitals), a three-piece band from the north side of Dublin. Singer/Bassist Evan Dempsey and Guitarist Mark Ryan are both aged 17 and drummer Glen Guerin just recently turned 16 and this year they played OXEGEN 10, one of Europe’s biggest music festivals, released an EP and a single. They also had to change their name after battling it out with the UK band of the same. Formed in 2008, this young band of indie-rockers has played more gigs than most of their older counterparts. Their early gigging career involved playing at every house party they got invited to. This quickly built up a loyal following and the band then moved on to bigger gigs around town. They cite as their influences such classic bands such as Thin Lizzy and Joy Division, more recent artists such as The Strokes and White Lies and just about everything in between. Their debut EP ‘Take Everything’ was very well received by press while their second single ‘Still Broke Enough’ with it’s hooky guitar riffs, gritty vocals, driving beat and wealth of teen spirit may well become a teenage anthem to rival ‘Teenage Kicks’ by The Undertones. Still Broke Enough is being re-released on October 1st to coincide with the new website thekapitals.com.
