OK OK OK OK OK…

So in case we havent said it enuff… our new EP ‘Wasted Palaces’ is OUT!! But we didnt record it to tell all you people its out… we released it in the classiest way we could. From CITY to CITY. and it was freakin RRRAAADDD as hell!! We first had our hometown Boston/Allston release last week at the undergroundly hiply reNOWNed club Great Scott on their epic friday night dance nights called THE PILL {check it out cuz its wasss happenin in the city of Boston for anything and everything dOpE i think they even won a best club night in Boston award from the Phoenix} thepillboston.com do it. Anywho… we sold that motherf’er out. Which made us happy of course and put us on a crash course for the night towards heavy PBRing and Whisky jumping {dont ask | well ask but in person}. Only sad part of the night…. someone got stabbed across the intersection {i know right in Allston} whaaaa! but i guess the night brought the heat for sure. Guy is alright tho so says the BPD. The night ended with some of the hottest Indie-grinding, haha, weve ever seen thanks to the Pill’s excellent DJ spin spin spinning. Night was amazing and thanks goes out to everyone!! even if you missed it.

Second… we brought the raucous back down to NYC. We had our official NYC CD release at the Bitter End in the crazyness of the depths of the Village. The Bitter End for some reason, and I know we’ll figure it out one of these days, is always CRUSHING it whenever we play. We didnt even get on til 130-2ish!!! whaaa? yea a little late maybe for some fans but… tried and true they are. It was a great night of playing too… brought to the table some new set tricks and dynamics and ENRRRGY. Maybe it was all the Stellas peoples were buying us, like the Italiano restaurantours … what was their place called its down the street … anyway quite the gents. Everyone seemed like the night could go on forever, and it pretty much did. We didnt stop playing til around 330 AM by that time the sun was creep creepin. but we decided to keep drink drinkin. thanks to none other than mr alex C!! you are the man brother. hanging down in some Battery park high rise flat til what… 8 in the morn? Jazzing it up!! Crushing it with all the after party peeps. yea it was quite rad. Thats how its done tho… well i cant get into tooo much detail, but you know. just want to thank all you NYCers for an awesome night too!! thrilling!

A combination of Jim Beam and a desire to change the world produces indie rock band The Honors. The Boston four-piece creates intricate yet accessible rock songs thickly layered with gritty, compelling instrumentation, sophisticated guitar licks, and raspy sincerity. Lead singer Brandon’s passionate vocals are particularly distinguished in “Passing on Blue”; the captivating melody provides the ideal vehicle for an unrestrained, heartfelt lyrical delivery that is one of The Honors’ trademark musical elements.

Jason and Brandon of the band answered questions via email at a coffee shop on tour in Niagara Falls, NY.

Liv: What inspired you to make music together? How did you all meet?

Brandon: Someone once told us that people form bands to either change the world or get laid. I suppose you could say that we are inspired by a good mix of both. Jason: Brandon and I met while studying English at Regents College in London, England. What began as late night, post-club jam sessions grew into a lasting musical relationship. We reunited several years later in Boston and decided to form The Honors sometime in the winter of 2008. Jason was playing in a successful New England area hip-hop band called The Press Project, and after performing their final show at the 2008 Bonnaroo Music and Arts festival, Jason recruited the hip-hop band’s bassist, Roland, to join the new band. Andrew came to Boston to study jazz at the Berklee College of Music, and knew of Brandon through mutual friends, as both Brandon and Andrew hail from the Ohio Valley.

Liv: What inspires your music on a non-musical level? Like, a book or piece of artwork…

Jason: ‘20,000 Leagues Under the Sea’ by Jules Verne. Anything involving the ocean, really.

Liv: What was your very first show like?

Brandon: We had so much fun we can’t really remember.

Liv: What has been your biggest conflict to over come as a band or as individual musicians? Brandon: Who gets to sit shotgun on tour.

Liv: How has the relationship within the band changed over time?

Brandon: We used to shake hands. Now we give hugs.

Liv: What does the near future hold for The Honors? Ten years from now?

Jason: Lots and lots of touring, meeting new people (preferably lovely ladies), empty bottles of whiskey, shoe polish, Walmart parking lots, Mark Jacobs, releasing a debut album, legendary fame in Japan.

Brandon: Ten years from now doing all the same things but in a world we helped to change.

Liv: What’s your pre show/post show routine? Describe your rock show experience…

Jason: Preshow-

750ml of Jim Beam

5 cigarettes

1 to 3 windsor knots

Engaging as many lovely ladies as possible. Spice to taste.

Brandon: Postshow- 30 Pack of Miller High Life, so every lady gets a drink at the afterparty.

Jason: If you’re a female, like to dance, party, have fun, and forget the day to day bull shit that inundates all our lives, then this is the show for you. If you’re a male, and like to look at females dancing, partying, having fun, and forgetting the day to day bull shit that inundates all our lives, then this is the show for you. Party on!

Liv: What’s your favorite/least favorite things about being on tour and/or being in the studio? Jason: Favorite studio experience: the initial play back of a new song.

Brandon: Least favorite: waiting around for the engineers to set everything set up.

Liv: What song do you wish you had written?

‘Love Game’ by Lady Gaga.

Liv: What are your favorite swear words?

Jason: The Jonas Brothers.

Hello beautful peoples!

As we traverse our way home through rolling green hills and a steady mid-summer drizzle, one reflects upon good times had. In just about a week, we’ve learned some important life lessons. Below is a working list:

Don’t climb the water tower drunk. Sashimi, its sushi without the rice. Chicken teriyaki, not just beef and broccoli. Niagara Falls is better on the Canadian side. And Michael Jackson died when we were there. RIP MJ!!! Chicks with blue eyeliner and platinum lip-gloss are turbo sluts and try to rape men. Fake Titty is the name of our van. Big boobs are a surprise and girl’s knees can look like dinosaur eggs. There are beautiful people everywhere, especially women. Empty parking lots are scary at night. Drunken dudes in Buffalo have the skills that pay the bills. We play so loud that the cops have to come and warn the venue to turn the music down. Apparently you can’t drink Tiger beer in the street. Gay black men are hilarious. Designer chicks are what’s up. Especially when they have long flowing red hair and work at Urban Outfitters. The Universe is a big place we will never understand. Sleeping in a white van is fun and foul smelling. Whiskey makes us play better. And dancing ladies. Everybody loves Phil Collins. Beans over an open pallate fire are the best ever. There is nothing like a late-night beasley. Japan loves us. Wings taste better when they’re 20 cents. The sun feels so much better when you know it’s raining back where you live. Not everyone is out for themselves in this world. Thank goodness for iPhones. Scrunchy the Bear makes the best honey-nut Cheerio type snack ever. You can live off Chef Boyardee. Make sure to drink lots of water to dissolve the insane sodium intake. Fatalism and Determinism are different but the same. Driving with a trailor triples the tolls. Every town has a ghetto. We love the Astrolodge. It’s the place where stars are born.

Thank you world for receiving us with open arms. May the journey continue. Cheers!

Jason
