The Girlfriend Season started in early 2007, well kinda. Myself (Ryan), my brother Patrick, and close friends Travis and Bevan started a band called For Augustine. We were really going for an Alternative Rock feel, kinda like Emery, Amberlin, or Paramore. We only had four members at the time and wanted to make it six, so we could incorporate a keyboard player and have our lead vocalist work the crowd instead of having to focus on playing an instrument. So, we recruited two other close friends, Jeffers and Ryan M.. Now that we had six members, we could really get the feel we wanted. Two guitarists, a bassist, a keyboard player, a drummer, and a lead vocalist who didn’t have to play an instrument. Now we were ready. Like I said, we were really going for that Alt. Rock feel and myself being the songwriter, was writing songs to fit that sound. One day, I wrote a song that had a much more pop feel and was less rock driven, the song was called “Take Her Down”. I showed it to the rest of the guys, they loved it, and basically “the rest is history” as they say. We changed our name soon after, to accompany our newly discovered sound, that we love so much (Powerpop). Our name “The Girlfriend Season” was thought up by me (Ryan). I basically came up with the name after seeing an add on myspace. The add was for a dating agency and it read “Girls get ready boyfriend season is almost here.” I thought the add was kinda dumb and cheesy, but I was very fixed on the words “boyfriend season,” for some reason it just caught my attention. I knew we needed a name that would catch attention, and also accompany our sound, something that when heard, made u feel happy instantly. So I took “boyfriend season” and changed it to “Girlfriend Season,” it seemed perfect, and that’s how we became The Girlfriend Season. Many months passed, we practiced, wrote songs, played shows, and had two lineup changes. Our original drummer Ryan M. was replaced by our bassist Travis and to fill our bassist position (since Travis moved to drums) we recruited Colby. Next, our guitarist Bevan, was replaced by Tyson. Our current lineup of band members is as follows. Ryan(vocals), Colby(bass/vocals), Pat(guitar), Tyson(guitar), Jeffers(synth, keys) and Traivs(drums/beats). Along the way, we have been featured in “The 2008 Musicians Atlas” under “The Artist Spotlight” section, along with being in the magazine, our song “Danger Baby” is currently in regular rotation on many college and citiwide radio stations, throughout the U.S. and Canada. We are also currently featured on the Blue Duck Records sampler, along with bands like Swithfoot, Ruth, and Starflyer 69. In November of 2007, about 7 months after we had formed, we finally had enough money to record our EP, titled, “I Can’t Move as Fast as I Want Too.” However, recording was a challenge, at the time many of us were still going to college, and we were spread over 3 different states. We recorded in Boise Idaho, at the MixHouse and with people in Nevada, Utah, and Idaho, scheduling recording time was always tough. By early January we had finished 3 of the songs that were to be on our EP and were just getting ready to finishe the last two, when we were, as one might say, “discovered.” We were contacted by a manager/producer, George Toben. He had been directed to our music by a niece who heard our stuff on myspace. Now at first, we were a bit skeptical about George and deals he was offering us, for more then a few reasons. But after remaining in frequent contact, for about a month, we learned exaclty how legit he and his deal was. George is a mulit millionare. Made so, by his 20+ years in the music industry. He is most notably know for discovering and managing “Tiffany” the eightes Pop Princes who toured with New Kids on The Block and recently had one of her songs peformed by a contestant in the Finals of American Idol. From 1993-2004 George owned and operated the radio station “The Edge” in Las Vegas Nevada, making it into one of the most highly rated Alt. Rock stations in the country. He sold it in 2004 for 30 million dollars and retired. He has also worked for Universal/Motown records, and produced Smokey Robinson’s highest selling album ever. As of 2007 George came out of retirement, and hooked back up with long time partner, Mike Picirillo. They decided to find bands, they thought could be a success, and offer them production/managment deals, with intentions of getting them signed to major labels. Now, after learning all these things, we were more then anxiuos to discuss a “deal.” As of March 2008 we were now and currently are under a production/managment deal with George Toben and Mike Picirillo. Their goal is to help produce and fund our album, then take it to many major labels, and get us a deal : ) (fingers crossed). So here we are. Our current status is that we are writing and recording demos we can use for our album, when we and our two representatives (George/Mike) agree we have the songs necessary to make our album, we weill hit the studio. We currently are not playing shows, just focusing on making the best album possible. -Ryan
