The Belle Game is a seven-piece band from Vancouver, British Columbia. Their layered instrumentation, shared female/male vocals and poetic lyricism have sparked comparisons to fellow Canadian artists such as Feist, The New Pornographers, Arcade Fire, and Ohbijou. Initially formed to serve a single performance at Vancouver’s The Railway Club in the summer of 2009, the band’s founding members, Adam Nanji, Alex Andrew and Andrea Lo soon realized their potential as a collaborative song writing team. Within months, The Belle Game had recorded their debut release entitled the Inventing Letters EP. The EP’s focus on harmonies, pop melodies, and orchestral instrumentation soon received positive press from around the world and earned the band regular airplay on CBC 1 and 2. Recently, their song "Tiny Fires" won them the fan favorite award in the Shore 104.3 FM Sounds of Summer Song Search, and the video for their first single, "Shoulders & Turns", earned them a feature spot on MuchMusic’s The Wedge. Just after the release, Adam left Vancouver to live in Montreal where he met Katrina Jones. Their shared musical sensibility resulted in several at home-recording sessions, and soon Katrina became the official pianist/vocalist and fourth member of The Belle Game’s core group. Since then, The Belle Game has expanded into a seven-piece Indie-pop outfit, offering audiences layers of vocals, strings, percussion, and a live show that often ends in slow dances and sing-alongs. They have toured throughout North America and have shared stages with some of Canada’s most exciting up and coming acts (Aidan Knight, We Are The City, The Balconies, Olenka and the Autumn Lovers, Bent By Elephants, and Zaac Pick). The Belle Game has just finished recording their first full-length record in Vancouver. The album, tentatively titled Sleep to Grow, is an expanded incarnation of The Belle Game sound. It offers dynamic arrangements, unique instrumentation, varying musical styles, soft anthems and sweeping crescendos, all with the same affection and whimsy that has had them recognized as one of Canada’s coziest bands. The record was produced by JC/DC Productions (New Pornographers, Destroyer, Tegan and Sara) and is scheduled to be released in the spring of 2011.
