The Singer / The Songwriter "Life for me ain't been no crystal stair" With a cool demeanor and laid-back persona one would never know the hardships that have plagued young singer/songwriter Tarvoria Russ. “Life for me ain’t been no crystal stair” should be the title of her next song, but this popular Langston Hughes line describes her life growing up. The oldest of seven kids born to a drug-addicted mother, Tarvoria insists, “My family wasn’t the Cosby’s”. Her grandmother raised her and her youngest brother. Forced to learn adult lessons as a child without the aid of her mother “I didn’t really have a childhood.” With the ability to follow in the steps of many of her family members, Tarvoria fought against stereotype and found her passion early on in life. Though her family didn’t believe in her love for music, she found solace in the Church and in school chorus. “Music was my outlet, my cry for help.” At a day and age where most new artist are concerned about buying jewelry and cars with their earnings, Tarvoria has the mind state of a veteran; focused on writing credits, securing a fan base, record sales, monitored record spins and more. Having worked with many established producers such as Jim Jonsin, Drum Majorz and Khao, Tarvoria released the “Ghostwriter” mixtape in 2005. The project consisted of a compilation of songs she personally released to showcase not only her singing ability, but also her prowess with the pen. She describes her writing style as pure realism. “I write about everyday life - both personal and what I see others go through. Tarvoria is currently working on the upcoming release of her “Nothin’But Da Truth” Mix Tape. This highly anticipated Mix Tape was released in April 2007 and features original tracks from producers TBerry, Drum Majorz and more. Music consumes every outlet of Tarvoria’s professional life and not just for the benefit of her own project but for others as well. Tarvoria is the producer of Central Florida’s longest running artist showcase held monthly in Daytona Beach, FL. Once a month Tarvoria invites artist on the verge in various markets to promote and perform for her fans in the Daytona Beach area. In 2007, Tarvoria decided to take her Unsigned Hype event on the road to obtain footage for her upcoming documentary – F.E.S Unsigned Hype Documentary. The project futures independent artists, such as her self with a grass roots fan base in their market. Each artist on the Unsigned Hype Documentary will assist each other in gaining fans through cross promoting in each others markets. The monthly unsigned hype event and the unsigned hype documentary are elements of what sets Tarvoria apart from other artists. Tarvoria is strong willed, creative, independent, humble and focused; all the elements to sustain the ups and downs of the “business” and secure her place amongst R&B greats.
