Steven M Krug Jr is a father of three, husband, factory worker, and lover of all things music. Hailing from Rock Island, Il this 33 year old singer/songwriter has spent over half of his life performing in clubs and theaters, and plans on playing more and more years to come! His father got him going in music early on in life, (at age 2 he was caught climbing up the stereo cabinet to try and play DJ with his turntable), Steve Sr is a musician as well and always had instruments around. Steve grew up on a steady diet of progressive rock like Pink Floyd, Yes, and Rush, as well as the Beatles, Neil Young and lots of southern rock. He started playing guitar and piano at 12 and by 14 was playing in bars with his dad...then came grundge. Soon he became interested in writing his own music, so he branched off and started the band Purkle in the early 90’s. Though the grundge movement interested him, it was the other music of the era that would prove to be the biggest influence. Artists such as Toad The Wet Sprocket, The Posies, Matthew Sweet, Tonic, Red House Painters, Tori Amos, Portishead, Ben Folds Five, Nine Inch Nails, Radiohead, and Therapy? did more to form his style of writing, and those influences are still evident today. Steve spent the next 15 years in the Hard Rock/Metal scene of the Quad Cities area of Illinois and Iowa and toured around the Midwest with Purkle and more recently Blind The Sun. In the fall of 2008 he made the decision to go back to what he always loved musically and returned to the singer/songwriter, power pop styles of his early music days. He has an album of studio and live tracks available now called "Mourning In The Evening", and you can get it on most major online retailers such as iTunes and Amazon. He is currently in the studio working on recording his first full length album, tentatively titled “Middletown Heartbreak”. He has been playing shows and open mics around the Quad City area and Chicago and went on tour this past November. The reception he has received has been great so far and he plans on taking his music on the road soon to a city near you. You can now catch him playing bass in the band Head Held High, check em out here on Ourstage and on Facebook and Myspace!!
