Catch Steve Hamby live, and you'll hear twangy guitars, belted vocals, and an amazing set of original music combined with a wide variety of covers from his influences. Steve Hamby (guitarist/vocalist) was born and raised in Oklahoma (the breeding ground of country music stars.) Steve began playing drums in church at around age 4. He began playing guitar at 5. He later began playing local venues in Oklahoma with bands of various genres (at one time even sporting a blue mo-hawk and playing guitar for a metal/punk band.) But once the shows were over he would drive home with the windows down cranking up Johnny Paycheck or Waylon Jennings. Steve moved to Tennessee when he was 19, played for many talented artists, and was eventually hired as a bass player by legendary country artist Vern Gosdin. He learned more about country music in the 3 years he was in Tennessee than his previous 19 years combined. Steve credits such talented people as Timmy DeArmitt, Buddy Owens, Eddie Lange, and Jay Andrews for taking him in and teaching him everything he now knows. Steve has recently began writing and recording his own music. Finally able to do things his way, he shows large amounts of potential and promise. A true country artist to the core, Steve is expected to bring real country roots to the foreground of his music while being true to himself and his own edge.
