What started out as a friendly musical gathering around the campfire ended up being a tale of musical ascension for Marisilda Garcia, Luis Robledo, Geoffrey Rhue, Jeff Hohimer, and Jeff Bitran. A MySpace invitation to an open mic night at El Cid proved fruitful for the group as they booked a series of gigs that night and sparked a new unity in their friendship. Mulling over the possible names for the newly formed band, they decided on Sorry, Nelson after a series of apologies made to their neighbor, Nelson, for their late night rehearsals and new PA system. Over the course of several months, Sorry, Nelson has amassed a series of over 100 original songs; a quantity unknown to most bands today. It is not uncommon to see Sorry, Nelson create an original song inspired by their audience at a gig around town. Their ability to create a stylized song complete with lyrics and melody at a moment’s notice sets them apart from the competition and captivates the audience listening. Those who know Sorry, Nelson as individuals are quickly recognizing the synergistic energy they create as a group. Their unique and bilingual sound successfully combines the soulful jazz sounds heard by artists such as Ella Fitzgerald with the Latin flavor of Gloria Estefan. True to the roots of each individual that makes up this eclectic group, one can expect to hear a rock song one moment, a Texas folk song another, or a heart wrenching soulful masterpiece followed by a salsa. Themed songs also abound as Black Widow and Song for Lenora are featured in two short films: El Taxista and The Whistler respectively. One need only to attend one of their gigs to see this band appeals to a variety of listeners and music fans. In a few short months, the members of Sorry, Nelson have successfully gained a following, amassed a number of original tunes, and gained notoriety in LA. Sorry, Nelson writes to a captive audience about the realities of love, loss, fear and the humanity of us all while stirring our emotions with mesmerizing melodies. Their raw lyrics and depth of musical knowledge base make this band an enjoyable one to watch explode in the industry.
