Influenced by the underground Detroit scene as well as the post-pop alternative sounds of Amsterdam, Simone remains in a class all their own.Lead vocalist Simone Star has her musical ‘feet’ planted on both sides of the US/CN border. Born in Detroit and raised in Canada, Star remembers being held as a baby by Motown icon Gladys Knight. ‘As she rocked me, she told my mother that she knew I’d become a pop star’, quips Star. A ball of energy on stage and off, Star relishes the passion of her fans. Having performed nearly 1,000 concerts since touring in 2008, Star rarely takes time for herself and instead spends her free time donating to charities and writing new songs. ‘I just love it when I get to hang out with our fans - we’ll have cookouts or go to the beach or just chill backstage’. Originally signed to Underground Resistance Records (Detroit, MI) as techno artist ‘Gigi Galaxy’ and managed by award winning producer Gary Martin, Star toured Europe and won the approval of her overseas fans nearly overnight. ‘Teknotika was a great way to learn about the music business and I owe Gary (Martin) an enormous amount of gratitude for his support’, added Star. Still tied to her techno roots, Star managed to carve a unique niche in the music industry by merging alternative pop sounds with techno undertones. Star continues, ‘When you listen to my vocals and the samples from the Teknotika days and compare them to the production on, say, Built To Last or even the Tabitha Rides The Shark CD you’ll hear a lot of similarities - even though the style of music is quite different’.Based on the east coast of Florida, USA, Star has released six CDs, received numerous awards including Best Original Band, 2011, charted on popular music ranking websites and has toured internationally since formation in 2004. Notable recent performances include: Featured Performer for Rolling Stone Magazine’s Annie Leibovitz, Opening Artist:, LA Guns, Dishwalla, B-Liminal, Bullet Boys and many more. Currently signed to Catapult Records, ‘Simone And The Supercats’ is a female-fronted rock band that performs an average of 200 shows per year.
