Got a nice gift sorta from Recording magazine this month, a really ultra-positive review of a track I submitted to them for the “Reader’s Tapes” column. The tune in question I wrote, arranged and produced is called “Enough”, it was given the Spotlight in December ’08.
The review then:
……
Production Notes & Credits:
Music: “Enough” is a male vocal rock song. The music was written by Serge LaPorte and Louis Gagne, Jeff Dingwell wrote the lyrics. Serge arranged, programmed and played all of the instruments with the exception of the drums. He also did the tracking, mixing and mastering. The lead vocal and drums were courtesy of Louis. Reviewed By: Marty Peters Rating: 5 Recording: If there has ever been a better submission to Reader’s Tapes than this one, we can’t recall what it might be. Serge (along with Louis and Jeff) has put together a masterful effort here. The writing is top notch as are the performances and the recording.
We love the tones, the use of panning, and how about those handclaps?! Individual sound sources weave in and out effortlessly, and the track never loses its focus or drive despite the advanced arrangement. “Enough” gets an A-Plus: go to the head of the class, gents!
Summary: We’ll be singing this one for days!
Cool, what can I add :) Here is the link: http://www.recordingmag.com/tapereviews/2008/12/47.html
Today here in Quebec, December 11th 2008, everything has been covered by a rather thick mantle of snow and of course a delightful crust of freezing rain underneath, just came back from the outside, to try and chip/shovel/break and clean the mess up, good exercise fer sure. The music business can be absolutely horrible or can be a blessing, it’s the business end of things that is unfair/insane/arbitrary or great. But music that comes from a good place always has that peculiar quality of bringing thrills, joy or sorrow to the enlightened listener, and that is something that is REAL and cannot be tainted, it is from that place that I write and hopefully you listen. I have made a living of writing/arranging/producing music professionally for a long time now, be it albums, jingles or TV shows. I still love what I do and music still moves me, now that is great blessing in my life. Hope you have a place like that to go to yourselves.
