Serge Dor was born in a musical family, amid the musically rich and diverse culture of the Caribbean and Latin America. He is the third generation of his family to have inherited music as a natural talent. Having paid his dues,Serge's time has come to step into the spotlight. This is the meaning of the "Creole Cello" initiative: a new musical force not to be ignored. In his music, different musical worlds come in touch, inspire each other and fuse to create a new approach, a new sound. A variety of sound colors are creatively merged until the final mixture itself becomes the new music. It is this rather rich musical creativity, extremely diverse in technique that Serge brings us with his "Creole Cello". He is following the footsteps of such jazz giants as Ray Brown, Ron Carter, Percy Heath and Christian Mc Bride. Serge has free lanced professionally as a jazz bassist for a few years, honing his skills in the clubs of New York City and also abroad. He has performed extensively and recorded on numerous CDs, including his own label. He has appeared on live radio broadcasts and also on national television. Although academically trained as a string bassist, his love for the Cello and its marvelous sound led him to discover his true voice. His in depth exploration on the instrument resulted in the development of a unique repertoire that incorporates some of the roots and folkloric musical elements of his upbringing. The final blend of his music is "Creole flavored". Serge is widely known and accepted as the creator of the "Creole Cello", a unique pizzicato sound that blends the elements of Haitian, Afro-Cuban, Brazilian, Latin, Jazz and world music together. Considering the great heritage in music that he has, he feels that he has every reason to face the future optimistically. As he progresses on his journey into new realms of sound and expression, he will not close the door behind him. His life is a continuum, and his musical heritage - a golden one- is based on a sense of continuity which enlarges upon the past to enrich the present and open to the future. Aside from being a talented musician, Serge is also a creative visual artist whose transcendent evocations in oils of "Music Motif" are winning ecstatic praise. His work is viewed as “music-inspired on canvas“. His style has been coined as “abstract-realism “where form and fantasy merge to create an unique expression. He clearly shows his mastery of color management and composition. With vision and imagination, pure colors and the harmonies of a composer’s lustrous palette, he creates an enchanted world, a cosmos of cohesive colors that chant like a visual melody. Serge found in music the fuel that ignites his imagination and desire to paint. After all, what is better to have both on the same canvas: music and art? This is Serge’s world: it evolves around “The Color of sound“. Every music or art lover should include his music or artwork in their collection.
