Growing up was hard because my dad’s alcoholic lifestyle, my parents were divorced when I was five years old. Later, my mother re-married, but my dad chose to continue drinking and dating a female bar tender. I looked for an example of a man but sadly I could not find one. So I looked to the only thing that was in front of me, movies, TV, and music. The people on TV always seemed to have enough time for me, and they looked pretty happy too. I began to imitate what I saw. I went to Catholic school when I was about six years old till the age of thirteen. I only went because my mom bribed me with Do-nuts and a Mc Donald’s breakfast. But after I made my first communion I was not forced to endure the Sunday mass. My mom was happy because she did not enjoy it either. Now, let’s fast-forward (jrew-rew) to when I was 18. A couple of my friends and I were walking to a groceries store parking lot after school. I couldn’t help but make fun of this short Mexican guy, on top of a 15-passenger van. And than suddenly my friend taped me on my shoulder because this strange Mexican guy was signaling for me to go to where he was. So I went with my fist balled thinking “I guess now I have to fight him. Who told him I was making fun of him, anyway?” As I approached him he jumped down from the van and asked me “are you saved?” I told him, “Yeah I have my friends that have my back if you want to fight?” He laughed and said, “no, I mean if you died would you go to heaven?” His name is Raymond, a youth leader at the church my friends tried to take me to about two years earlier. I thought I was okay with God since I made my communion and I did not carry guns like my other friends. By this time I was 18 years old and heavily involved in making rap music, and smoking weed at least once a day. I got saved shortly after Raymond invited me to church, but I soon backslid. After I graduated from High School, I started to go to a community college and I was working at a dead-end job. I just found out that my girlfriend at the time was cheating on me and had an abortion with my soon to be child. I later found out she lied, and said it was a miscarriage. I was crushed, confused, desperate, angry, and I had nothing! Even my friends were turning their back on me one after another. I remember sitting on my bed thinking, “God, I chased money, I chased rap, I chased girls, and I even chased drugs. “But I am going to chase You and see what happens, cause I have no other reason to live.” From that day on I rededicated my life to Him, to do His will and His ministry and I never looked back since!
