SCRATCH CAT BIO:

Rick Lawrence a.k.a. Scratchcat was born in Kingston Ontario Canada on July 15th 1979. When he was growing up at the age of 12 years old, Scratchcat met a friend who could beat box, who then showed him the basics. As time went on Scratchcat poured every bit of himself into perfecting the art and with years of dedication and practice finally acquired the skill of human Beat boxing. Now at the age of 29 Scratchcat has become one of Canada’s top beat box artists along side others such as Poizonous, Spitz, Human Record, Scott box, The Kernel and Sick Sound Syndrome now formally known as the T Dot All Stars. The name Skratch Cat has no story however. Rick has always been fascinated by animals mainly wild cats, but foremost is known for his vocal scratches, thus the name Skratch Cat was born. Scratch is also known as The Beat Box Wizard sometimes performing the impossible .a.k.a Beat box Wizardry. With the help of others, Scratchcat would like to resurrect the lost art of beat boxing by inspiring individuals to develop interest with this unique ability and to form unity with all beat box artists all over the globe. Stay tuned Canada, Beat box Union is coming soon. Scratch currently teaches the art of beat boxing to various youth in the community hoping to expand interest in the art. By teaching the basics as well as the history of beat boxing, Scratch hopes to inspire and encourage youth to expand in the art. During the years Scratchcat has been associated with a variety of artist’s such as Dan-e o, Goldspade, Mindbender Supreme, Devo, Symbolik Muzik Crew, White Lotus, Live Wire, Sick Sound Syndrome and most recently The Rhyming Chef. He has also been featured on Da Mix, Much on demand, and C.B.C News Sunday, and most recently Breakfast Television. Scratchcat will soon begin working on a CD project entitled Skratch Fu. It is an all-Canadian beat box album. It will contain some solo tracks, and feature beat boxers. It will contain no samples, keyboards, or drum machines. Some sample track can be found on the link provided. Scratch hopes that this album will re-introduce everyone to the lost element of Hip Hop. . . The element of Human Beat box. A few words of advice to upcoming beat boxers: “Keep God in your heart, practice every day, never give up, don’t bite from others, and be humble and most important of all stay true to yourself.”
