Savanna Russell began her musical career as a young child in a quaint church building in the west Texas town of El Paso. Even from the beginning, her voice proved to have a sophistication that most young children did not have at her age. Savanna spent much of her childhood exploring the complexities of music through voice, piano and guitar and found it to be a satisfying outlet in a very challenging situation. After leaving her hometown at the age of seventeen, she relocated to Austin, Texas with much experience and the eager expectations to further her skills amongst Texas’ greatest talent. Austin took a great liking to her music as fans grew increasingly receptive after her major debut at Texas Revue. Out of several hundred candidates she was chosen as the top 14 most talented entertainment groups at the University that year and proceeded to perform in front of a crowd of 9,000 people. This solidified her knack for captivating a live audience. She received much recognition after her performance at the festival and was invited to play several other events such as Voices Against Violence, Rez Week and The Kerrville Folk Festival Songwriters Contest. Throughout the year, Savanna Russell recorded her first EP, “Audience of One”, including her popular track, “Beautiful”, which was played on a local radio station. This four track ensemble sold out effortlessly within a few days of her performance at a nationally well known venue in Austin, called Antone’s. As her fan base continued to grow, it gave Savanna opportunity to develop her sound further by drawing upon influences such as Patty Griffin, Etta James, Lauren Hill and Tracy Chapman. She continued to perform regularly at coffee shops such as Seattle’s Best, AHOP, Blue Dahlia, and Dominican Joe's along with some international appearances in Mexico, Taiwan and The Philippines. Savanna Russell has spent the majority of this year recording her new album, “So Far“, which will be released in 2008. Upcoming events include appearances at the Bluebird Café in Nashville, TN and a television appearance on the Fox Morning Show. In this next season she is looking forward to taking the local success she has found in Austin to a national stage.
