Anyone who has seen Rick Caballo perform in his regular haunts along the Australian East Coast pub and club circuit will tell you that this phenomenon has talent to burn. In just a short time, he has honed his craft as a writer and perfected his performing skills to be second to none, qualities that have been recognized by song writing associations and his fellow artists alike. Rick has the rare combination of charisma, magnetism and riveting presence that makes the best entertainers stand out, ‘STAR quality’, if you will. Cole Clark Guitars and Caterpillar Luggage quickly recognized the gathering interest in this talented musician, and both have hastened to award him their endorsements. The hallmark of talent in a musician is the respect of their peers, an area in which Rick has a wide and deep roster of ardent friends and supporters. At home, he’s shared the stage and studio with Australian music icons including Brian Cadd, as well as members of the Screaming Jets, the Angels, and the Skyhooks. In the States, he’s worked with numerous Nashville artists, including Duane Sciacqua, Becky Hobbs and Carl Jackson. Rick was born in Wollongong, NSW, Australia and now living in Nashville Tennessee. Born from Spanish parents a heritage which weaves its way through his music and is especially evident in the song ‘Mi Amor’ on the 'LOVE RETALIATION' album. He was also influenced by such divergent wellsprings as the Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, Bon Jovi. All of these rich and varied sources came together to help give rise to the powerful music that flows from this vibrant musician. Rick's first CD, 'LOVE RETALIATION', was recorded in Nashville in late 2009 and marked a milestone in his musical journey. He was fortunate enough to have the album produced by Duane Sciacqua (Paul McCartney, Glenn Frey, Joe Walsh) who has been a major influence in Rick's life and music. The album has been well received, getting airplay across Australia and Europe. Two songs from the album, 'Black Jezebel Road' and 'Connected by a Broken Heart' made the finals at the prestigious Tamworth Songwriters' Association' in both 2009 and 2010. Rick was honored to work with Carl Jacks on (Dolly Parton, Glen Campbell) who produced the song 'Language of the Herd', co-written by Rick, for New York Times bestseller Monty Roberts. In January, 2010, Rick was selected from among Australia's finest up-and-coming talents as a Grand Finalist in the coveted Toyota Star Maker contest in Tamworth, Australia’s No.1 Country Music Festival. This great achievement strengthened and built on his love for the new era of country-flavored Southern Rock. Rick's music is a way of life; it’s all about honesty and integrity, which is reflected in his song writing. The lyrics and music must have meaning. This is again evident in his newest material. Some lyric ideas were rattling around in his head for months, but had no real significance until Rick was unfortunate enough to witness firsthand the devastation of the Nashville Flood in May, 2010. Many of his good friends lost their homes and livelihood. Although saddened by the experience, Rick was also inspired by the amazing people of that community as they pulled together and helped one another rebuild their lives brick by brick. From this experience the song ‘Two Hands’ was born. Rick took part in the ‘We Will Rise’ Flood Relief recording in June 2010. Some of Nashville’s finest independent artists came together to record a song, produced at 515 Studios, with all proceeds donated to flood victims. Exciting times lie ahead as Rick begins the next phase of his musical journey, culmination of all that he has learned, and all those from whom he has learned from.
