About Pressing Strings

Rosedale, MD

Pressing Strings formed in 2006 when Jordan Sokel and Josh Kachura met at Salisbury University and began writing music together. They fumbled between drummers for a few years mostly performing as a duo until finding a match in Bob Novak.

PS has two records out so far. 2008’s “Where We Are” is still being received warmly and won the band a spot on Annapolis based WRNR’s top 103 Artists of 2009 countdown coming in at #87. As well as earning honors with the highly esteemed WTMD in Towson, MD.

2010’s “Episodes” features some of the bands strongest material while parlaying their ability to cross boundaries between folk-Americana, blues, and ska-reggae rock with growing regularity. The record has solid accompaniment all around including Junior Marvin(Bob Marley and The Wailers) on electric guitar.

They are currently working on the 3rd album that has yet to be named but the plan is to have it released before fall of 2011. Member Jordan Sokel reflects on the task at hand, “It’s important to us that we keep growing and maturing as songwriters and recording artists. We want to make sure we make the most of what we have learned over these last years through performing and making records and the challenge is portraying that on this next one.”

Since the bands 2006 start they have performed non-stop opening for such bands as The Beach Boys and Canada’s Sam Roberts Band and are gearing up to tour nationally in 2011.
