Hop On Pop -- the original lineup
Hop On Pop is a Chicago pop band with influences that span the entire gamut of what can be labeled "pop music": from Big Star to Hank Williams, from Guided By Voices to Super Furry Animals, from Kinks to Syd Barrett.
The debut album, As Drawn By Ethan, Age 2, was released in April, 2004 to positive reviews and relatively modest sales.
In August, 2007, bandleader Todd Leiter-Weintraub decided to disband the original lineup to pursue a more fluid format... one that allows him to explore an even broader range of styles for the next Hop On Pop album. New songs are now being composed for that anxiously awaited follow-up. The new songlist promises to delve more-deply into Todd's love of traditional American music, such as bluegrass and country, as well as into the electronic pop influenced by Brian Eno.
For now, Ethan... will serve to tide over the small, but growing legion of Hop On Pop fans.
